Motorhome depot

Stop trying to put the lady off, it is daunting for anyone trying to sell their motorhome no matter which way they try to sell it.. Go back and read the OP carefully and put yourself in their position. Have you ever tried to sell a motorhome to a Dealer? Those rogues want a much bigger margin than 3K.
Stop telling me what to do please Jim, it don't impress me much, like you I gave an opinion.

Has anyone used motorhome depot to sell their van ? I am having to sell our van due to my husband’s health, 2005 Autocruise starquest, normal wear and tear and had a repair on bumper, it’s under forty thousand miles and I was thinking of £15000 , it has refillable gas and solar panel. Do you think that price is reasonable? MOT due in March . Any thoughts 🤔 Thanks.
I tried the usual fleabay auto trader Gumtree which Motorhome depot use as well. What a pain in the erse it was had one guy state you are selling at dealers prices my reply was go to the dealer then. His reply was yours has much more extras new tyres and alloys, i have less patience nowadays so told him where to get off.
Contacted Motorhome depot the guy came out took photos, i told him what I want for it and was upto him what commission he wanted. Good point is they have a list of people looking for certain make / model which was a bonus. Within a couple of days first viewing they were happy and accepted the price only to drop out a day or so later another viewing at the weekend SOLD. they take care of the viewing and show the customer around, i chose to keep it here and not on their forecourt. If there is any bartering on price it will come out of your pot unless you can split the difference. Go for it a lot less hassle in my view!

We had 4 different MH Depot people round for our Bessie E475, none knew enough to give me a valuation, but if ease of sale is more important, then a broker is a good option, however I would go with a more professional outfit such as the one Simon used, I don't know what the initials stand for but I he did tell me at the time, it was very painless for him.

I'm far from being a people person, but I knew every van inside out and could demonstrate how it all worked and always told them I was happy for them to ring me if they had any problems, having sold 10 vans I only ever had a call, they just didnt understand the control panel, I even did a video for a couple of buyers.

It is a very personal decision on how and where to sell.

And I never got a tyre kicker from Ebay, just the odd one who wasn't sure about how it would work for them and we're viewing a few before deciding.

Private sale eBay, last month. Sold in a week. Exactly the same model as the one I sold on Motorhome depot still 4sale but then they have added the 4k commission to the asking price.
Horses 4 courses, it it's not your thing to sell privately then they are there to help you, at a cost, like every thing.
However I enquired about on on MHDepot and the agency took 3 days to get back to me, possible losing the sale

There is another option that was on the motorhome Matt podcast a month or so back. I want to say it’s we buy any motorhome but I don’t remember. I think they are on Matts approved list so you can find out. They don’t sell for you, they give you a price and buy if agreeable. They sell to dealers I think it said.

May be of no use but may be worth a call, you don’t have to accept anything

Thanks for your replies and differing views some interesting points, do I want to spend £3000 just to save some hassle? Am I tech savvy enough to sell it myself? I don’t know 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe ringing a few people from the MMM who say they buy any motorhome, I’d rather take less than pay a big commission. As for selling in the winter as someone mentioned I do realise that but I was hoping not to have to insure it at Christmas and it still has some MOT left , it has never failed a mot . We are second owners and it only had 6000 miles on when we bought it . I am not at home at the moment so can’t see true mileage but it is under 40000. I am at my daughters in a stressful domestic situation so that isn’t helping, also dealing with oncology and cardiology not that you need to know about any of that but it gives an indication of my stress levels at the minute 😂. I also have a drive away awning,( one pole with tape ) and a Fiamma privacy room that fits on a caravanstore awning rail , I’ve had zips fitted to it so it is so easy to put up but again needs a repair on the caravanstore awning I did get a quote a couple of years ago and it was £30 but due to hospital visits etc I didn’t get around to it , I can’t give you pictures until I’m home again as they are on my computer but I wouldn’t want anything for them just be happy to pass them on to someone who needs. I had an aluminium rail fitted to the van to accommodate the caravanstore and once that is on I can fit the privacy room myself which is why I had the zips done. Anyway I’ve prattled on enough thanks again for your thoughts and I will keep you posted. 👍

The commission on a lower priced motorhome like yours would (I guess) be lower than 3K. The price I got in my hand after commission was more than I would have advertised it for privately. Talk to Motorhome Depot, let them see it and see what they say. It will cost you nothing and they come to you. Nothing tried, nothing gained. :giggle:

If the MOT is quite short if I were you I would put a years test on it. As a buyer its something I would expect. Sounds to me though like you have enough to deal with right now so maybe just let it go for a bit less and let someone else sell it.

You are right I think that is the best way forward, thank you.

Whereabouts are you? Pm me rather than putting it in full view, I have a friend who is putting out feelers and may want to buy something. We are in East Devon and wouldn’t want to travel far.
Over 200 miles away unfortunately.

I always wondered if there was a best time to buy or sell. You would think early in the spring would be best to sell but I'm not so sure it makes much difference now. If this is a sub 3500kg small to medium size van in good nick it would be snapped up at any time of year I would think. I could only find three on Autotrader. These are traders though. For a quick sale the OP might have to think about dropping the price a bit perhaps.

Sold my pvc 23rd December

I too am trying to sell and have been approached by various dealers, including MHD. Have resisted so far, not least because friends of ours didn’t have the best experience. At the moment we are just trying to sell through facebook sites, gumtree etc. I guess its just a matter of patience, especially with winter coming and people being less keen to buy? Anyway, good luck with yours!

I would never use them, after 50 years of various motorhome ownership, buying and selling all privately, why would you need them. It's just another money making venture based upon the laziness of people today.
We are all being turned into blobs......Just sit there and get everything done for you...

Isn't that how businesses work? Providing a convenient service that some people choose to use?
