Mother of all rattles!

This is the number one annoyance that I can't seem to solve. My van has two captain's chairs that swivel. When the passenger one is unoccupied it rattles - very loudly. It does this as I'm driving along and it even drowns out all the other rattles that I've become used to. When idling it sounds like I'm in a tractor! You can rock the chair on it's mounting with one finger. The other one doesn't do it.

I've had a long hard look at the mounting and all the obvious bolts and fixings are tight. Despite numerous complaints to the dealer, with the van still under warranty, it was never fixed and now they don't want to know. Just some BS about tolerances and they all rattle to some extent.

Short of sticking a rubber bung in it does anyone have any better ideas or solutions?

Our front passenger seat rattles sometimes when travelling without a passenger. To stop it rattling we turn the seat to face in slightly then wind the backrest back tight up against the door pillar with a cushion between to stop wear. Only necessary on a long journey, otherwise not worth the effort!

Buy a bag of sand, wrap well, install in seat and fasten seatbelt??

(Used a posh version of this to try and substitute some of my body weight when my flying students first went solo)
