Forgot to take the hand brake off.

MOT failure

One thing is if it hasn't been mentioned already is it can also fail for " Excessive movement "

Which is where the clicks issue comes in ....... the handbrake lever should only move through approximately 30° of movement

Anything more than this shows possible excessive wear in the cable or linkage which may result in brake failure

repair

Keeping the faith.
So had brake test a kwik fit. Still would fail on park hand brake by 2%
So will take it in for retest after removing all the seats as mentioned above .. Hope to find 2%

The manual for my vehicle (Nissan Elgrand) says that the parking brake (foot operated) should travel 5-6 clicks with 20kg pressure. This is easily adjusted by a 10mm nut on top of the pedal meaning that if the shoes/drums are properly aligned then it should pass. My local mechanic tells me that this is a reasonable assumption meaning that any issues should be easily resolved. It passed OK recently and I regularly test and adjust if required.

True, but the ratchet still makes a bloody awful racket. I used to own a driving school - we always taught the silent approach in order not to disturb the examiner from his/her reverie and therefore promoted a "pass".
