Morecambe anti MoHo protest

Seaside towns aren't my thing Graham but I can't stand self-serving councillors. Councillor Pattison's parents moved from Ireland and worked at the Pontins leisure park so I wonder if she has any vested local interests in holiday parks?

Not that I'm cynical or anything!
Blame the Irish again. 😂

I have never stayed in Morecambe, we usually used the THS at a neighbouring large Caravan Site. When we have driven into Morecambe there have been dozens of motorhomes along the front and to be honest, they look awful. So I don't blame locals for complaining. We also used a WC spot nearby for a single night. I notice that it is not in the app but it was quite a while ago and may be restricted now.

We have cause ( wifey`s dollshouse obsession ) to visit Morecambe regular and have done so for many many years.

There was one point several years back that was beyond a fecking joke with the amount of them parked along the prom and had clearly been there overnight as evident from the blinds being shut and the amount of condensation on the inside of the windscreens 😱

We did try but lost count at over 75 and i couldn`t be bothered going back and trying again.

I thought you were maybe exaggerating on the numbers but I found a couple of so called "Van lifer" videos on youtube and after fast forwarding through the usual drivel both had footage of just a massive long line of vans parked up and comments appreciating them sharing the spot online. Its taking the pish completely I think. No wonder people are fed up.

It can be a problem Barry and council intervention is sometimes necessary.

I remember when Julie's Dad lived at Huttoft and the problems they had there. He regularly got intimidated just walking by with the Dog and it did become a bit of an eyesore. He was a motorhomer by the way as well, so wasn't biased against them but he always said that things had got out of hand.

Again not my sort of place but I can see why problems arise. I'll just stick to Pub stops, wildcamping where we can and the odd CL/CS. I can't imagine much worse than camping in a large group like that as well as being inundated with tourists wearing 'kiss me quick' hats!

Nah it don't appeal to me either. Its not so bad on an Aire if its an overnight stop, you expect to be surrounded by like minded individuals and behaviour is usually good. I think we are doing more harm than good with examples like this. I would never park up in a huge group but others seem to be attracted to it. Im a bit fussy about where I park and a roadside would be a last resort for me. I find a lot of our seaside towns a bit depressing to be honest as well. Shame really.

Most Councils would happily provide more social housing if they were allowed to borrow the money needed to build them but they are not.
Still doesn't alter the need to establish what is causing 'long stay Motorhoming' that causes Council's to leap to wrong conclusions ...

We stayed on the Free Aire in Tortosa 2-3 times on our recent Spanish trip, and observed each day groups of 3 ancient MAN Trucks that had been converted to living accommodation. Never more than 3 at a time, and the Trucks would park in the allocated bays until all 3 had dumped and refreshed tanks and then departed in convoy. Couple of hours later, a different trio of MAN Trucks arrive and repeat the process [all had NL Nationality Plates]. The last group we saw contained one MAN Truck that had a rear end very similar to a Bin Lorry, and at about cassette height on a coachbuilt M/Home, there was an 'address', and a postbox aperture for mail ... ;) Must be a wee Commune in the locality

As much as I totally agree with all comments about abuses at Morecambe and other similar places, I don’t agree with outright bans. The numpties who think spending weeks parked up there for free are the problem, not responsible owners who would never behave like this. Deal with the numpties, and provide limited controlled facilities for everyone else. It can be done and is being done. Yes it will mean spending some money, and will need monitoring, but some if not all of this expenditure can be recovered with payments from us, and benefits to local businesses. Also I agree with Barry, I don’t reckon protesting is a good idea, could be counterproductive.

No mission of parking a van at our portstewert sea front with bl--dy car drivers taking up the spaces, they should be reported. 😂
