Morecambe anti MoHo protest

I watch most of Marks videos on YouTube. Mark is very passionate about how we are treated. He is spot on with his assertions on discrimination, and lack of proof as to level of complaints, something that has been discussed many times on here.

It does sound like its been abused though if you can believe the reports and complaints. Bit more here.

Mind you one of them claims you can go to a site and get hooked up for £12. Would love to know where. :D

If its true and people are parking in all sorts of vehicles for months on end in large numbers I cant say I blame them for wanting shot of them.

You would have to pay me to go there though. I wonder if they park there so they can look across the bay longingly at the Lake District! :ROFLMAO:

Interesting though if you read on and check out one of the other links. Morcombe council reckon the full cost of a TRO and all that goes with it is £60k!

One option would be limited spaces and a 48 hour rule of course.

Barry I have no doubt there are idiots spoiling it for the majority. That applies to just about everywhere. Deal with the problem, manage the situation, and help to benefit everyone involved, including some of the hard pushed businesses in the area, who have not even been consulted on something that will affect them. Morecambe is not my cup of tea, but it is for others.

This is back in 2020 but certainly this business owner saw the benefit. Post pandemic though things have changed quite a bit and not for the better for motorhomes I think apart from the growing number of Aires of course.

Quite a lot of positive comments on FB as well along with some negative ones.

Confession time .... I once lived in Morecambe.
It was a dormitory town for many students in the early years (60s/70s) of Lancaster University.

If you do pay a visit to Morecambe be sure to go to Eric's statue a place of happy memories for everyone.

When I was last there a couple of Indian / Pakistani families turned up at the same time as about 20 skin heads complete with swastika tattoos.
Both groups got together laughing; swapping Eric & Ernie jokes.
An ambulance went past under blues & two, almost everyone shouted "He won't sell much ice cream at that speed".
A truly wonderful place.

Simple to have say 5/10 spaces marked for vans and a 24hr stay with no return within 48hrs, sinage with no dumping of waste or toilets.
A ticket machene with say £5 date and time stamp, takes the irish to solve problems. ;)

Well to be fair thats kind of what I said. 48hrs maybe and designated spaces. There are even other car parks there that apparently could be used. Personally I would rather be in one of them anyway than by the road side. I cant imagine its a quiet "event free" night

I've never understood a provider limiting the stay to 24 hrs.

With a 24hr max people tend to arrive one day and move on the next without spending in the area.
With a 48hr max they arrive one day, spend a day in the area and use local facilities and then move on.

Exactly. Even 72hrs would be fine. If the main issue is people spending months pretty much living there then any byelaw prohibiting that would work assuming there is a way to enforce it of course.

There seems to be an issue with Motorhome's parking in towns that didn't seem such a problem before covid and the subsequent boom in MH ownership. Seems to me that if a later day MH owner sees a van parked up they feel obliged to join them, next you know the area is full of vans.

I Co Cork last year I found a remote place with great views and firm ground. Parked up and low and behold within 90 mins 2 other British vans joined us, not even a good distance from us, either side of us, had this in France, Germany and Scotland.

When I see another van parked up I try NOT to park in the same area and if that's unavoidable I stay as far from it as I can (unless it's Puds obviously, in which case I get as close as possible and put some music on and kick a ball against his van repeatedly)

What gets me about all this is that they say Motorhomes should be on sites but what should they then do - not venture from the sites onto the roads or park along the sea front?

And the chap who moaned about "paying a premium for the view" from his apartment should remember, nobody is entitled to a view, if they were then hundreds of the new housing developments would never have been built.

Having said that, I wouldn't go there anyway.

Only if you have a yen for hospital food Kev :D :D

So many seaside resorts could benefit greatly from motorhomes if they looked beyond the end of the noses and provided an official area ( aire ) for them to park overnight safely.

It`ll never happen whilst the majority of bent councillers have their pockets lined local Campsites, B&B`s and Guesthouses.

Seaside towns aren't my thing Graham but I can't stand self-serving councillors. Councillor Pattison's parents moved from Ireland and worked at the Pontins leisure park so I wonder if she has any vested local interests in holiday parks?

Not that I'm cynical or anything!

If people are spending months living in M/Homes, do Morecambe Council need to provide more Social Housing? A question that the Council should be able to answer ...

Most Councils would happily provide more social housing if they were allowed to borrow the money needed to build them but they are not.

We tried it one night there and never again unless things have changed. Far too many lorries thundering past from very early in the morning going to Heysham Docks
