Yes there is and I keep a big placard up my jumper to which I flash and get away with blue murder, I wish.
Today motorhomes on u105 local radio with Frank MItchel, Donaghadee back prom/carpark was marked out and provided with hookup and waste points when we were in the EU, now council has erected a new sign stating no overnight campervans, but have not removed the old ones stating 3 nights stay max, when council were ask about this their reply was they legally cannot remove the old signs, baffled we are here over this.

After a lifetime of enjoying the east coast with my parents then with my son, I have now spat the dummy out & will never head there again. I refuse to hand over another penny to these uninformed, hostile anti motorhomers. The situation is dire & getting worse. I am disgusted that I am treated as an outlaw just for having a hobby. I have never in my life wanted to go out of this country, "my country" before, but now I am seriously considering it.
It grieves me that if I was Irish, or Black, or Jewish etc I would be protected from this kind of prejudice by the very same people that seek to persecute me. Why are we being treated in this manner? What did we do? I am a law abiding individual, I do things by the book, yet I'm made to feel like a criminal every time I take my bus out. I am disgusted at the way things are going & I weep for the next generation.....

Times may be a changing.

Some places are now starting to make changes to welcome motorhomers to help struggling economies, as are pub landlords. If this escalates places like Scarborough may see that they have perhaps shot themselves in the foot a bit as people favour other more welcoming 'resorts'. Maybe even a U-turn if the trend for staycations persists?

Not that it bothers me in particular as it's not my sort of place anyway.

So true as nearly all county , district and parish councils offer next to nothing for motor homes and all UK tourism in the doldrums ! We have money to spend but can’t park so we can spend it!
We need water, waste disposal and a place to stop overnight like most of civilised Europe
 
It is nothing new for Scarborough Borough Council to be messing about they have been changing the rules for over night parking for the last 7 or 8 years getting all worked up at every comaint sent to them one year it was the Hoteliers trying to say they were loosing trade because of them do the hoteliers think that people with MH s would stay in their hotels we when our van was being built had to go to Scarborough and stayed at the Grand it was a dump if we had known we would have slept in our less than half finished van Scarborough is now a no no for us for over nighting

I have just listened to two clips from local radio featuring your views on the use, or misuse, of parking areas within your locality.

This is a recurring problem which is addressed perfectly amicably all over Europe but seems to be met with intransigence and open hostility in UK. I have a motorhome and travel widely using a mix of sites and parking facilities, where they exist, often at pubs, clubs and village halls etc. It is true that these units are expensive to buy and run but I don’t understand why, having gone to all the expense, anyone with a self contained motorhome would defecate in a lay-by or leave fast food wrappers etc blowing around. I would suggest that problem lies with people visiting in cars and vans without the fully self contained facilities motorhomes do have.

I must declare an interest in developing continental type services, being a member of an excellent campaigning organisation which is dedicated to the growth of off site parking for this large, and growing, sector of the tourist industry.The membership currently stands at roughly 20,000 and motorhome registrations in UK easily top 300,000, so there seems to be an opportunity for local communities to benefit from what is a generally well disciplined and well heeled section of society. May I draw your attention to this organisation https://campra.org.uk, where guidance and case studies can be found.

Sadly articles of the type aired yesterday on you local radio do nothing but generate a lot of heat and not much light and provoke negativity from both sides of the issue. As a retired person who’s worked a lifetime, been a trade unionist for the best part of fifty years and been proud to pay my way, and continue to do so, it strikes me as odd that the default position of many local authorities is so very restrictive. This year is destined to be a golden opportunity for home based tourism. I’d like to think we, as a society, can be much more imaginative than taking the route of restrictions at every turn.

Yet again we are vilified by ignorance, treated like leppars , and have lies backed up by false photos, exaggeration, and a clear bias directed towards us.
But this thread gives me hope.
Why, well years ago Scarborough council would have been defended by some on here. But now it seems that enough is enough. We are not criminals looking to get one over anyone, just mainly retired law abiding people who wish to enjoy the freedom that retirement offers. But we don’t want something for nothing, we don’t defend those who don’t know or simply don’t wish to behave, and we are considerate of others.
You may have seen my post last night regarding kilmahog 2. I will be contacting the Scottish forestry commission about this injustice. And yes I know my efforts will fall of deaf ears, but hey that’s sadly par for the course. I would like campra to take a look at this disgraceful situation.

I have to say your editorial efforts have been so meagre as to be non existent. The two clips contained in the piece are from one source, who appears to have an agenda. There is no counter argument or link out to sources which may hold contrary a view. A vague reference to,'received complaints’ have not been checked with an FOI request, or if they have this was not mentioned. And finally, the image used is a stock photo and probably originates from somewhere in Europe. All the vans appear to have the habitation doors on the opposite side to British vans and the concrete power pole is of a type not generally seen in the UK.

So, by selective use of sound bites and pairing them with misleading imagery you have descended to the level of Facebook et al.

I’m still no wiser as to how the, ‘Campervan issues in Scarborough borough’ are to be addressed.
