Hello everyone, i was hoping someone could let me know if its ok to park at Monsal Head in the camper. Heard it used to be and hoping to go for first time soon. Thanks in advance, Dave.

This is a popular place and rightly so with one of the most spectacular views in the Derbyshire peak district. There is a small pay and display short stay car park overlooking the Monsall trail with marked bays which is suitable for cars and only the smallest campers. At the rear of the Monsal Head hotel there is a larger long stay pay and display car park, unmarked bays, which would be more suitable for campervans. There is a weight restriction(but no height barrier)which precludes most motorhomes but I have seen quite a few coaches, minibuses and the odd motorhome/campervan parked in there so I don't think it is strictly enforced.

Be aware that in summer it gets extremely busy and both car parks are often full.

Thanks steve for that, we`ll be going next week so i`m sure we`ll find somewhere to park up there or close by.

We stayed there for one night in Oct in our MH. When we went back to that area several of the car parks that were ok to stay in overnight had new signs saying no overnight parking. When we drove past Monsal head we tried to see if there was a notice there but couldn't go slow enough to see if the new one said that.

The food at the pub is good. At the back of the pub they have their own car park. You will see it's got a raised part round it. This bit is not pay and display. The rest of it is. You can also park at the cattle market in Bakewell but not when the cattle market is on. If you drive round to the back of the auction house you will see the MH bays. We have stayed there on a few occasions. If you are short of water don't go exploring for taps. The ones in the cattle market are pumped from the river. They have one which is fresh water and if you ask really really nicely they will let you fill up. There is also a toilet which you pass on the way in.

The Monsal Head CP is not very flat and not a lot of room for larger MH's.

After 6pm it's a £1 .. Meter does say NO OVERNIGHT but Council don't seem to bother especially if you take all your rubbish home with you. We meet one of the local lady traffic wardens in Matlock which is still Derbyshire Dales. She turned up at 8am to close off part of the Car Park. She walked over and I said we would move down onto the road but she just smiled and said put it in the bus bay I won't be back till 12 o'clock and walked off.

..
