We use the Halifax Clarity card.
Found it to work in All but 1 situation.
Often, self service at pumps forced you into getting prepaid at the till.
Typically required was 70 to 85 dollars.
Shoos of all types and old rusty museums worked.
PROBLEMS
We attempted to purchase tickets through Ticketmaster. PAIN IN THE ASS.
After 3.5 hrs, could not get tickets, even at the office, even the chap doing the transaction struggled when he used his own card, on our behalf.
What was annoying is that when inside, a purchase of drink or food was achieved in 10 seconds with a swipe of the card.
COMMUNICATION WITH UK BANKs
With modern security checking done by computer, using general bank cards is a torment.
Some banks only give you 10ins to get the pass code but the system takes 30inutes to function.
Another requires you to verify it is you trying to make the transaction, again takes over 15 mins to get message.
Not quick enough to react to 10 min before cancellation.
Another issue was having to phone the bank, time differences as you cross time zones do not allow this to happen easily.
Contacting banks using email is a waste of time never get a response.
We use four banks to give us options, none were easy to use.
Only 1 was responding adequately, but still placed stop payments in the way to frustrate us.
Even Caxton failed on the rare time we used it.
The method as stated above that has been reliable was Halifax Clarity.
ENSURE you have a second CREDIT card is my top tip.
AND
Prove it works in the UK, before travelling to USA.
