Moisture Absorbers

I haven't tried either of those products, but I'd be surprised if they outperform the ones sold in Poundland and similar shops. The best price I've found so far is 3 for £2 and they work quite well.

The aero 360 is good, it certainly gets a lot of moisture in it when I leave it in the van or outbuilding for decent periods.

I was thinking of buying one the moisture traps but so far I have just been buying the cheap ones from pound land so I think I will stick with those,as they do the job. As Steve121 says they do the same job.:D

you are wasting your time/money as air holds moisture and it is always replenished so all you are doing is trying to suck the whole planet into a we trap, forget it and put a small greenhouse heater in the small bar/tube type which will burn around 35w up to about 65w.

Thanks Trev, but it's not a warmth issue (we have heating and aren't afraid to use it :) ). I was thinking more of the situation when we're semi-stealth wilding and don't want the silver screen on.

Thanks to you all. Some amazon reviewers mentioned the poundland ones but seemed to think the ones above were better.

Cheers Hextal, good to know they do work.

leave a little heat on and open a small vent 100 time better,or you could stop breathing but i fear that may put an end to your wilding.:scared::lol-049::lol-053::wave:

So if I use one in the van any moisture trapped will naturally be replenished? Is this scientifically correct? If it is there is no point in using one, which I did in the van last winter...anyone?

Unless you are creating a vacuum of the inside of the van,any moisture being drawn out of the air inside the van increases the volume, which will be equalized by air being drawn from the outside.Unless you are using a van load and are constantly changing them, don't see how they can make that much of a difference.

it all depends of the humidity of the outside air relative to the humidity inside, when cold and not raining the humidity drops and then is a good time to put them in, the best positions are were the air circulation is not good as when the van cools moisture will condense onto the cold surfaces if the airs humidity is still high in the area.

Our Autoroller is prone to condensation. We used to plug a small dehumidifier in but now use several of the cheap poundland type boxes. My wife keeps a lookout for them on offer and buys a few at a time if they are on special offer anywhere. We have half a dozen sited in the worst areas and they are excellent.
Tompa.

Bit of a can of worms really.

Essentially, the amount of moisture that air can hold at any given time is dependant on the air temperature.the warmer the air, the more moisture it can hold.

Relative humidity is the ratio of the maximum it can hold at the current temperature to the actual moisture level in the air. So at 100%rh it can't hold any more.

You get condensation when warm air hits a cold surface because it forces the air in the immediate vicinity to drop in temperature, reducing its capacity to hold moisture. If the drop is enough the rh is forced to 100% and the moisture is effectively released in the form of condensation.

So, you could stick a heater in, but, unless you have good insulation and no cold surfaces, it could be argued that you'll drive the differential continually.

A moisture absorber will draw moisture out locally, but again, will likely not make giant gains.

So neither are perfect.

I have a temperature/humidity reader and a damp meter that I use to just keep a general eye on things with.

Minky Damp Guard Moisture Absorber ]

Pampers I'm informed, do the trick.

Oh sorry I thought it was something to do with alleviating geriactric Motorhomers complaints. Too late now to delete!

We put a couple in when the MH is not been. Used over the winter, I heard that if you put cat litter in that helps. Or salt lol :rolleyes2:

Buy indicating silica gel on ebay and make your own bags up. You can dry it out and re-use.

never seen the point in these things, all motorhomes / caravans etc are permanently vented either via the roof vents or drop out vents and more likely both so you can stick these things in your van but will be continually emptying them as you try and dry out the earths atmosphere, if you suffer condensation the only way to cure it is to ventilate and get rid of as many cold spots as possible, as trev says those tubular heaters are great for this I have them fitted under our seat lockers and in the washroom we have a constant low background heat so most internal surfaces are generally warm to the touch so virtually no condensation or damp / cold area's .
