I have an expensive habit of hitting things with my wing mirrors. Has anybody got experience of whether a mirror protector

1. is stronger than the mirror so is less damaged if you hit something - or perhaps it is not damaged at all?

2. protects the expensive mirror so it is not damaged

3. is not effective so the protector and the mirror are damaged

I appreciate it depends how hard/fast the collision is, but is it worth spending £120+ to get a pair?

Is it something that will deflect oncoming traffic off your wing mirrors, snow plough stylee?
Or some new fangled rubber glass?

Following this thread.
We were hit by a huge Rv, left hand drive, that was well over our side of a country lane.
Result was the wing mirror smashed to bits, hitting the 1/4 light which also shattered, and continued to damage the paintwork on the door.
Rv didn't stop !

Fitted them to my Ducato based Swift.
Travelling into Hawes February white van man clouted my mirror knocking it back with considerable force. Only damage is mark on the protector but I reckon without it the mirror would have been damaged so in my opinion worth the investment.

There are a lot of differing types from the gel shields that act like a flak jacket to the plastic skins that make it stand out, I think a lot of their benefit is the extra visibility the prices vary from the £130 gel set to the £25 plastic skin , you pays your money take your choices as they say
