Mifi unit, WiFi antenna or both

we are looking for one but know wich one pj help please help thank you

We have a Huawei e5577 which is much better than the 5330 we used previously. Sounds like several ops use this too. Even when only one bar 4g we can still get internet. Don't understand all the techie stuff......just wanted something which worked! We took a 3 home broadband data only package as we have no landline now in uk. Gives us 40g data plus go binge (Netflix data free) for £23 month. We take the SIM out when in van and use it in the mifi. I see you can get a 12v adapter for the supplied home router (huaweib315) but we already had the mifi and it is very portable.

I used my phone which only had 1 bar of 4G for over 10 days at home when our broadband was off. We had the phone itself then 2 x laptops every night and it was fine for everything we (2 users at same time) wanted. That was normal browsing any updates that may have been needed and emails (most of what I do now at home). It was actually better performance than our normal broadband BUT our normal broadband would probably be unacceptable to most at under 3Mb.

1 bar should be all you need for reading this :)

EE and three did not work in Portugal at the barn, but Vodafone was great...I do realise that one bar 4g is better than three of two... unfortunately for some reason in our area, Vodafone is the only one to produce a signal of 3mbps...sometimes 10!!! The others did not reach 1. Better signal if I wander up the road though but not very practical. Three works well through France, Spain and the rest of Portugal. I buy a Vodafone contract when in Portugal and use it in the mifi stuck up high in the window.

The motorhome wifi antenna is a rebranded Ubiquiti nanostation. There's a more powerful 11db version that people often sell on ebay for around £40. Combine that with a Ubiquiti airgateway which is only £25 odd and a 12v cigarette power cable with the end chopped off and wired into your electrics you can have a more powerful setup for around £90 (the window mount is quite expensive)

If you're wildcamping most of the time though it's a waste of money. Just invest in a decent mifi setup, it will be quicker most of the time. Campsites are often in the middle of nowhere so their broadband connection will be crap, that's before factoring in it's shared. If you're in a built up area then you probably don't need an antenna to pick something up. I've used my wifi antenna once in 6 months fulltiming around Europe and my mifi was still quicker than the campsite connection.

Get a 50gb vodafone sim for £25-30, put the netflix addon for £7 on and you'll be unlikely to need more data. Video streaming uses most of it up and the VF addon does Netflix and Amazon Prime, several others as well. 50gb is plenty for whatever else you do. The addon doesn't work abroad though, not in the same way but you'll get the full 50gb.
