Morning all.
My friend has bought a transit type van they are wanting to get converted.
They're not planning on doing the work themselves.
Does anybody recommend any conversion specialists in the midlands area please. (They're in Leicestershire but they can travel).
Thank you x

Wow thats brave, the questions are many. Van is ? Buget is ? Design is?. And when do they want it done by.

Im building my own. Most buy completed, vans. Are not just for Christmas. They should try themselfs

If you google van conversions you may be able to locate a specialist. Most seem keen on VW conversions.
there was somebody on here who started conversions, try looking through the forum postings. I found this in Practical Motorhomes magazine

As mentioned above, I think the main difficulty for your friends will be to find a company that has capacity for a build, demand recently has been enormous!
For some popular vans you can buy pre made interior kits, this can reduce build time considerably. All really depends on the size and make of van and the level and quality of the fittings.

Have they tried looking on places like eBay for converted vans? As said, they may have to wait for months to get a slot for a new build. It would be quicker and easier to get something that is more or less fine for them and do a little tweaking afterwards.

my niece & her husband melton mowbray direction sourced a transit custom from scotland then after a lot of research decided to go to wakefield vanworks ( they found them initially on facebook recommendation though they have a website) had a pop top roof fitted with an additional bed in roof ,it’s now next door in another unit having the electrics heater flooring etc done found them very convenient near the railway station so drove up train back in fact they’re going up to collect it on friday had to wait 6 weeks for the pop top whether work load or supply i don’t know

If you have a look at the Roaming Radfords you tube blogs, they use a company in Walsall that seems very good. Cant think of the name off hand. (y)

It mostly is. Please stick with it, you will get helpful answers before too long.

I would say though, due to demand, many converters have long waiting lists at the moment. Good luck to your friends with the project.
Thank you x

Great team and nothing is too much trouble for them.

Try Adam at Campervan en le frith. Knowledgable and helpful although a bit of a distance.

If it is in fact a Ford Transit, they need to be aware that certain models are particularly vulnerable to theft. The Mk.7 is a case in point. Lots of info on this forum about the nature of the vulnerabilities and potential solutions.

Nowadays any vans can get nicked within 20 secs with obd ports
ive a mk7 transit and done loads to deter Johnny theft but if they want they take imho
live a thread on my deterants on my my 7 hymer I also have a disklok, restrained from door to door and I take out the fuel pump relay
seats turned facing the rear locked and if they want it after this charge on

As a self taught converter, first of all I have to ask, why oh why ever convert a Ford Transit as they rust even fast than a Mercedes Sprinter does.

I also suggest that paying someone else to convert to a high standard will cost a large amount of dosh whereas converting your own save a veritable fortune and in all honesty, it isn't that difficult.

I suggest your friends come on over to our sister site www.motorhomebuilder.com where they will find quite a lot of very friendly and helpful members who will be able to steer them through all the processes of building their own van.

this is on e bay the same sort of van they are having done by the same converters looks a lovely job though the mileage is a tad high
