Had our van now and for the first time got a mouse who has just eaten the arm rest.
cant see how the little bugger has got in. Set the trap tonight hope ive got him before he does any more damage. wonder if the insurance will cover this?
has anyone had this problem?

hi ,can be quite common . specially if you live in the country. i take them away on holiday and leave them al over the place. some have been to maroc and back . they can be little buggers to catch. i find bacon rind is a good one . have tried ther live catch systems but the best way is a good old fashioned spring snare. even worse can be rats , had a friend in spain get one in her van it chewed the wiring loom. but commited suicide in the trap soon after. hope you get rid of it soon . cheers alan.

We have always found chocolate to be a very good bait. Got
4 of the little blighters in the celler in France.

Many years ago, we had a farm cottage and got mice on a regular basis.

My wife did some toast for my sons breakfast and then saw him off to school.

I got up late (I was on leave at the time) and she popped some bread in the toaster. There was a horrible furry singeing smell and it was down to a mouse in the toaster. It was dead of course.:D

I stripped and cleaned the toaster. I had to use pliers to get the corpse off the element but I managed OK. We had that toaster for years but for some reason, nobody but me would use it.

As far as I am aware the insurance wont cover mice.
Never leave food in the van when not in use.
I get them in the shed now and again and have very good results with Little Nipper traps and peanut butter.
I have a live trap too but never caught anything in it

Chocolate Mars bar

Little Nipper traps and mars bar and you are virtually guaranteed, peanut butter and Bacon rind with fat attached is also good,
Cheese is a waste of good protein
Its coming to the time of year when the little sods come to the houses in search of food and easy living.

We had a mouse in our van at the beggining of the year, we had just moved to a new storage facility and returning from holiday I accidently left a packet of Snickers in the drawer under our fridge.
The little blighter had helped himself.
We set spring traps using the rest of the chocolate and caught it within days.
Have not seen anymore, but I an always carefull to empty the van of any foodstuff now.
We once brought one back from Newcastle Airport with one in our car, luckily no damage apart from a shredded juice bottle- and again we caught it.
Hope you catch it soon
Sue

Do the sonic type deterants work . Saw one in a magazine that lasts for 6 months on a battery.

Had one in the loft once and trap with choclate caught it in one night. Wife still thinks it got out to freedom itself .

Thanks for all your advice, still not caught the little b*****d going to try the chocolate tonight in the trap if that don't work ,this is whats going to happen:
Seal all openings
get large bottle of co2 with hose
place hose in van , seal around aperture.
Open bottle
Wait
OPEN ALL DOORS
INSERT OXYGEN MONITOR TO CHECK LEVEL IS 20.8
Remove body

I wouldnt bother as it may die out of the way and will small very bad for weeks, best toi trap them, place traps around the walls in cupboards and living area, it will get past some but its a number game.
I once caught 10 in one night, when we had a rabbit, they share the food and the rabbit dosnt bother

No, when we were inundated I spoke to the rat catcher at work an he told me the best way is the little nipper trap, when you see pest controllers on the telly they all poison or trap, I wouldnt poison as they hide some where and die and could smell.

Today I was driving along a rural road when I spotted a mouse on my windscreen wipers:eek:...hanging on for dear life, its fur ruffling in the wind. I pulled into a gateway and managed to grab its tail before it dived down behind the bonnet. When I put it in the hedge it vanished in a nanosecond. This was 10 miles from home so I doubt it will make it back!

We always get mice invading our vehicles at this time of year - they come in off the fields looking for a cosy winter pad. We now sprinkle the engine bay and areas with electrics with a mix of chillie powder and black pepper. They hate it!

As for the best bait: peanut butter is a real killer - they can't resist it. We got 22 in two weeks in my daughter's car last year, in peanut butter baited traps. You could hear them going off within minutes of leaving the car!

We used to get mice in our garage and shed so did our neighbours we trird the sonic repellers 3 years ago and have had no mice since. I try a bit of chocloate and peanut butter and have not had a bite so they work for us ;)

at the cost of them give one a try ours are the mains plug in ones.

Our neighbour has a place in France always been bad with mice took on last year no mice since each time he comes home he takes 2 or 3 back for french neighbours

Well we have them (sonic deterants) all over the house and I think they did work for a whole winter we didn't have any in. But last year caught 11 in just one day, all on the same trap in the heater cupboard (they come up the holes in the floor boards), I use big cheese palstic traps-look a bit like computer mice. Peanut butter!

We have cropped down the ivy and put fine mesh over the air bricks so maybe we'll be mouse free this year and then they move into the MH? if so they will be war!

...wonder if mice have regional preferences for bait...or is it a certain class of mouse that prefers chocolate to cheese?:)

.

I used a sonic type deterants in my outhouse and it kept them at bay.

The only mouse we have had in the MH was when we left it at a garage just off the A1 in Northumberland north of Morpeth, for some repairs and they made a nest in the back of the boot. We found them or it by a trail of spaghetti from a cupboard to the boot. It chewed the bag that I had the Cadac in, the bag holding tent pegs and the inside lining of my motorcycle helmet.

Left a sonic running in the van for a while and we have had no more up to now. I carry the sonic with me though, even now.
