MICE REPELLENTS.

Afternoon all.
It seems some mice have moved in over the last couple of weeks, thankfully only under the bonnet sound proofing, however I don't want them to get into the cab and living area. Has anyone used anything that actually seems to work?
Thanks in anticipation
Colin. 🙂

I've tried various deterrents from peppermint oil to ultrasonic repellers and nothing seemed to work. I ended up having to trap the varmints. I trapped 13 mice over a few weeks before there was no further evidence of mice. One urban myth we tried was 'Bounce' tumble drier sheets, which allegedly mice hate. The b*ggers nicked the sheets for nesting material and I was surprised they didn't leave a 'thank-you' note!
That said, the main reason I'm posting is to ensure you're aware that mice leave scent trails and other mice will follow these if you don't get rid of the trails once you've eradicated the infestation, so the problem is likely to return if you don't. A good scrubbing down with detergent/disinfectant works but there are other ways (including specialist products for fabrics) -- your favourite search engine is your friend here...

I know, that's what I'm dreading. I've no problem with trapping them, but want to keep them away fro the van as well. They may well chew a fair bit before they get the metal bar of doom across their necks☹️

A couple of traps under the bonnet and at least two under the van - mars bars or similar work for us, bit of choc and sticky toffee, they love it 🐭🐭

Or one of these.

I think the problem with mice is that where there's one, there's probably hundreds so I am a bit wary of using any sort of bait/attractant. So maybe ultrasonic type or scents/oils which put them off if you can find an efficient one.

It's a massive problem and can be extremely expensive to sort out.

Boats get them as well, the smell of a cat stops them, even though mine is to lazy and well feed to bother.

I've been luck Trev, as far as I know I've not had one on board (or not seen evidence of them.

A mate of mine had a Mink invade his boat though and you really don't want that! Took him months to get rid of the smell of dead, rotten fish.

I trapped 13 mice over a few weeks

We had mice move into the kitchen and I trapped about a dozen which I released at the bottom of the garden.

When we called the professionals in (covered on the house insurance) the guy laughed when I proudly told him how many I had caught.
He explained that unless you take them at least a couple of miles away they just return, and that I had captured one mouse many times.

He also told us that peanut butter was the best way of attracting mice but he wasn't allowed to use it because his company would be liable if it effected anyone. He left me a jar of peanut butter to have on butties. :)
