Metal fabricators for bed runners

The plastic bed runners that support the pull out bed slats on our 1996 Swift Kontiki are once again on their last legs. They get brittle and break in places and unless you have spare sections (which I do carry) your literally stuffed when they break. Broke a section this morning, cut a new six inch new bit from an old cut off and taped some aluminium over the top to give it a bit more support but that got me thinking. Could I get some aluminium ones cut to size and if so by who? Can anyone on here make them?

This is a similar product. That's for four metres of the stuff but they don't deliver and they are taking the Pish a bit on price

Barry, I would be more than happy to help, now the tin snips and welding bucket are retired to a drawer and coat hook, access to folding equipment is now difficult. I see zzr has offered to help you, I guess he will be closer to you?

The Ebay ad, that is extruded al/al, cost of manu a die and running a batch is expensive, but I would say the price is reasonable, more so if it includes delivery and meets your needs.

I hope you get sorted.
 
I agree with runnach. The actual cost of the alu extrusion isnt too bad for 4 metres. Its the delivery cost which is a bit steep at £500! :LOL:
maybe he can cut it in two halves and quote you a reasonable delivery charge?
if not I will get something folded up for you
 
Cheers guys. That's a very kind offer Tim. I'll take a picture of a sample in a bit. If it's going to be a pia I'll just source the original part. It will last until we get home hopefully. Whenever that is. 😁
 
This is a bit of spare I have cut out the old original runner. It's slightly different to the one that is currently in place.

Looks a bit more complex than I thought really. I'll be heading up through Exeter in a week. Might ring round a few dealers there first.

Barry, Tim is defo your man, after dealing with a few people Tim got me some Garmin lock brackets that I designed made after helping me improve the design and taking them to the next level 🤔

Made my high level top box from ally .I got 6 foot lengths, Got from scrap yard . Looks like that. £2 a kilo
 
Well my temporary repair lasted last night at least. Don't think it would withstand a lot of writhing about or bouncng on the bed though. 😁

it really needs a return leg to completely cap the plywood wall otherwise all the forces will be purely reliant on the fixing screws
in a bored moment (while the missis is sunning herself by the pool) I have had some thoughts
