Mercedes Sprinter Cruise Control

Any ideas as to where I can get one of these retro fitted in the South of England? I don't really want to travel to Hull!
Thanks
John

You must be close to Poole, there are some motorhome dealers in the area and I would do a google search, :cool1:

We had a cruse control fitted by Dave Newell at Telford, a very good job at a good price, well worth the drive and it is a good area for a weekend away.

I had a genuine Mercedes one fitted by a local specialist. All they needed was the switch system and a new steering column cowling with a hole for the stalk. The clever part is when they plug it in to the computer with star diagnostic system to tell the ecu that it now had cruise control. It is a really clever piece of kit as it gives you a speed limiter which you can set as you travel, this is so useful when in roadworks on motorway or on a road with spec cameras.

I`ve heard some good reports about these :- Fiat Motorhome Servicing & Repair Dorset | Essanjay Ltd i don`t think Poole is too far away from you either.

I know it says " Fiat Professional / Authorised " but like most these days they cover all makes and models.

They are Motorhome Specialists and if they can`t help they should point you in the right direction.

Hope this helps.

Ours van is a Peugeot boxer, the cost at Dave Newels was about £345 all in. The service was great we were given a time to arrive, then they took us to the open air museum and gave us complimentary tickets, when the van was finished they texted and said when we were ready they would pick us up. defiantly money well spent just great when travelling abroad on long open roads, and keeping to speed limits.

That's a shame - on my last Sprinter the main dealer charged £180 plus vat all in.
My current one - it came standard.

Obviously some of them can't be bothered to go beyond servicing and warranty work. Yours must have the anti business ethic firmly installed I am sure that's the way the world is heading just lately.

Oh well a third party, it's their gain and the main dealers loss.

I'll give Portsmouth Merc. a ring tomorrow.

There is a lot of main dealers between there and Hull you would think one would help.:have fun:

£590!

Just got off the phone from Merc. Fareham. Very nice lady and very helpful. £590!
The Workshop Foreman says I needed a new accelerator pedal to make it cut off automatically. I've been driving Merc autos for 15 years and the brake pedal did that job, so is he pulling my leg?
John

I think you're right, the brake pedal cuts the cruise off, don't see any reason to change the accelerator pedal.

Brake pedal kills the cruise on my Vito. Also kick down overrides the limiter so its easy to give it a quick squirt to pass someone. The only part on mine to be replaced was part of the steering cowl as it needs a hole for the cruise switch unit to live. Everything else was done with software update to tell the van it now had cruise control.

Just remembered. I'm certain there is a sprinter forum somewhere on the tinterweb as well as other merc based forums. Someone out there must have knowledge as to whether the dealer is trying to lift your leg

Thanks both for the feedback. I'll follow it up.
Changing the subject completely, the first and last time I was in Ilkeston was in 1968, taking my good friend Ray Johnson home from our army camp in Stratford on Avon for the weekend to see his miner dad. We went into the Brown Cow pub. Is it still there?

My Sprinter was a 2002, it took less than one hour, just an extra stalk. The guy who fitted it said it was one the easiest retrofit items he had ever fitted.

Unfortunately it was fitted by H&L Garages which lost the Mercedes franchise and went out of business about 2 years ago.

No help regarding the main dealer I used. Question the bull****. That is a 'we don't want to do it price'

A little side issue - Doris' VW was supposed to have been fitted with cruise and after much insistence the main dealer sent it to a third party to have it fitted because it was £300 cheaper than their own workshop could do it. That was all labour. It too is a simple addition, the third party fitted, tested and returned it to us within one hour.

That's problem in this modern age - everything is in a computer and if it says it will take 5.5 hours to do a job - that's it set in stone.

Question everything - believe nothing...... Anon :)

Do you mean the White Cow on Nottingham Rd? If so, it has been a small Tesco for the last few years.

Thanks for that, my memory is understandably unreliable! I remember a long bar with an equally long bench opposite, occupied by earnest looking men drinking mild and bitter!
