Brand new Maxview Omnisat Crank Up Satellite Dish.

I need a slimmer dish so have decided not to fit it on my van. It has not been out of the box so is a real bargain.
£330 (normal retail price is about £450

Anyone know of any deals on Maxview Vu Cube (best found so far is £480) or better still the portable Camos unit which is listed at £699, which for £200 more is what I'm looking at as it's FULLY self seeking, but if the manual Vu was cheap enough I would buy - Thanks all.

If you have the hassle of putting it outside, storing it away and the risks of it being stolen while its out I dont think it is a better option than the manual crank up which takes between one and 3 minutes to align without going and getting wet.

I know what you mean, my mate at work bought the Camos dome, but at 40cm high will not fit under our carport, so I would need the Camos dish, but as we may change the van within the next yr I thought the PAPSA was a good compromise and could be used on the next vehicle... rather than waving goodbye to £1800!!!!

We've been offered the book valuation of £20k for our Chausson even though it has tow bar, awning, TV, cycle rack etc so I don't want to give dealer another £1800 as extras seem to add zero value, but I know they would knock us for all the holes if I took it all off!!!

Hi Nosha,

I saw one of these portable self seekers in action up the West coast of Scotland recently. The owner could not get it to work when on the ground as the surrounding hills were blocking the dish. I suggested what the reason was (been there:cry:) and told him to stick it through the rooflight and on to the roof. This is what he did and it worked brilliantly. Most rooflights are big enough for this, so think about it.

Just don't drive home with it on the roof. :lol-049:

The caravan next to us in Biarritz did exactly that - stops people nicking them as well!! He had the white manual version as he always had the same pitch, when asked he said he had a strip of tape on the roof marking it out, so with the van level he never had to adjust the elevation, just align it with the tape and give it a little tweak.

i have seen those 50quid camping ones, heard good things about them, but out of my price range.

got a dish off freecyle, and just saving up for a 12v reciever unit. cant wait!!!

ta for the info.....

Ive had a motorised system at home for many years now...German, French, Italian and Spanish networks have lots of sports channels either at 13east or 19.2east. Sky works on 28.2east

If the B&Q box works off 12v its a good deal at that price for a FTA box...A Dreambox 500s works off 12v DC or 230v AC maybe you should have a look on an auction site or Gumtree for a secondhand one...a brand new one is only around £40-£50ish. Its a Linux box and can be adapted (if you catch my drift).

i dont think the B&Q one is 12v, it doesnt say so on the page, and its not listed as a camping one, which they do also (at much more than the 50quid price Aldi etc do...)

dont know what a dream box is, but my german friend is nutty about satalite dishes..has lots of them and loves all the stuff he can get (and most of it he cant understand anyway lol)

Just google dreambox 500s and look up discussion pages (forums) and do a bit of reading up, its too much for me to explain on this forum, its all there waiting for you to discover :) The 500s is the cheapest dreambox, there are better HD boxes available but your better starting with the 500s until you find out what they are capable of...at the very worst you will pick up all the free to air (FTA) channels. Its a great toy if you have a lot of time on your hands.
