From tomorrow, Lidl are selling bottles of 18 year old Malt Whisky for £19.99 per 70cl bottle.

There is no brand name on the bottle but if it is 18 years old, then its good enough for me. ;)

What if its from Turkmeggistan, or even worse .....Wales,.;)

You might as well get a bottle, we can test it around Lenny's fire on saturday night, then tell Rick how good/bad it was.
Cheers, Pete
PS if I win the bingo again, I will go halves with the whisky.

I asked this question years ago to a purchaser from Aldi.
The answer was: it is real Scotch, from a renown make. Whisky's are blended. Sometimes there is a shortage of some of the many blends. The effect on the flavour is neglectable but it cannot ( or may not) be sold under the more famous name. This should be your Aldi & Lidl whisky; at least it is genuine Scottish. (ouf)
Cheers :)

I think this may be the same one they sold this time last year. I bought a bottle for the auld man (who is a bit of a konisoor) and he said it was damn fine splendid, just a splash of water was all that it needed. :)

Just to set the record straight......I'm a Scot! :)

A wee drop water (and I mean a wee drop) helps release the flavours that in this case have taken 18 years to mature. Remember one of the main ingredients of whisky is water. If God had meant us to add coke it'd be made with coke:)

whisky

i assume from the price of the whisky it would be a single malt, as they tend to be more expensive, and in my humble oppinion far superior.
i too love a tot of whisky and agree anything in it other than whisky is sacrilage

I used to think the same but a Scottish cousin who really is a whisky buff persuaded me that just a little water in a fine malt does release the flavours. Try it - I think you'll find he's right (but definitely NO ice!).

Its all about personal taste. me I think its like curry, if its too hot how can you taste it, but thats me.

Many whiskeys are in fact brought down from a cask strength above 40% by adding water at the distillery. But you should never add tap water as the additives such as clorine will affect the aroma.

It gets even better Gentlemen. :D

The wife got me a bottle this morning and it was priced up at £17.99.

If its good, you might have to wait a few days for me to come round and report back.

If it is cr*p, then you can have the bottle.

Absolutely, a wee drop of water releases the swirl, which highlights the charecter of each expression..... which is the individual essence of the single malt.

Whiskey.

Got mine today, had a wee taster and it was very nice, might get another and put it away for 18 years. would that make it better or not as its been bottled already.
