Make and fit an extra shelf in a Hymer kiitchen

The first thing we noticed about our newly acquired Hymer Starline 640 was the lack of worktop space in such a big vehicle. Other owners reviews felt that there should be a another shelf to put saucepans/bits when the sink was being used. We had a think and decided to use the top rails in the drawer shown here.

A piece of 10mm MDF was slotted using my table saw at 32cm centres to fit the drawer top rails

I just happened to have a nice piece of 0.8mm brushed stainless sheet lying around and this was screwed on, with clearance holes allowing expansion due to hot saucepans.

The drawer can be pushed in this far to let OH out/in the door, and when removed fits in the drawer.

I've also just fitted the new oven by losing the centre drawer and slicing the bottom cover to fit.

Nice idea! Dont get carried away with the weight youre putting on it though.

Overweight?

I think I'll be okay, it's plated to 4500 kg or so and has four nice big wheels at the back....

You don't get many saucepans/bits weighing 4500kg so you might be OK unless the drawer runners can't handle it, seriously it is a great idea, because Hymers are based on European thoughts about cooking there is not a lot of space in the kitchen area so every little bit extra counts, we have a 584 Classic and there is a reasonable space on the left side of the door but I made a free standing shelf that fits over the microwave we put on there so we did not lose any shelf space, just like yours it isn't permanent so doesn't devalue the vehicle but improves it for you
