Magic Earth sat nav app (Android and iOS)

Petal maps does exactly the same with soundonce you start driving, there are many nav aids out there.

So far as mentioned Magic Earth appears to be advert free. Wonder how they are making money out of it or intend to? Presumably it wont be free for ever.

AS i said in past posts its full of spyware, they sell your email address on along with buying habits if like ebay amazon etc, there is no such thing as a freeby.

Give over. They don't have my email address or anything else of importance. I suspect I'm right. If it's successful they will start charging for it. I agree there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Yeah, but you're on about Petal maps. You reckon your data is in better hands with them, Huawei 😂
No its not and thats how i know, they are all at it, since i installed it 2 weeks back i have been targeted & my main frame linux pc has marked them all as garbage, must have been well over 200 of the blighters.

I saw an answer to that on their website.

Apparently they licence the product to commercial users which is their principle source of income.

As I mentioned there is an option to donate. I'll do that once I'm happy it works for me.

So far I prefer it to CoPilot which has such a dated interface.

Thought I had seen something like that up thread. I don't use a lot of free apps as they usually turn out to be crap or plagued with ads. This one is a refreshing change.

Done a bit of reading today from another forum.

I meant to give it a try on my most recent trip around Wales, Google maps really needs a ‘stick to main roads or major routes’ option!

Going to the Royal mint last week it took us off the M4 far too soon and led us down the best side of six miles of single track roads, probably a local rat run because I did a heck of a lot of reversing for people that didn’t seem to know how to do it themselves!

Just finding somewhere to turn around proved entertaining!

Despite the high hedges brushing my mirrors it did result in us finding a cracking park up, fortunately one not on any of the wretched apps so no signs and not spoilt.

Not a route I could ever risk taking in the iveco though so will definitely need something vehicle size aware for that otherwise Google can and will lead me into trouble!

Well I can give my first review of Magic Earth now having used it to get from Marazion to near Padstow / Wadebridge. Overall I'm very impressed so far. It is indeed a bit similar to the TomTom so that suits me. Instructions are well in advance and plenty of them. Alerts for speed cameras and your speed are useful.

Remembering your history is useful but it's not as easy as Google maps to find somewhere and hit directions. It would be great if you could make it your default app so when you Google something and hit directions it opens up in Magic Earth and not Google maps. Will have to explore that.

The voices though I don't like so far. It has to be a lady for me and TomTom Jane who has been my sat nav love for many years is irreplaceable. 😁

9 out of 10 so far.
