Lytham st Annes

this from the St Annes forum
Dear all,

Thank you for your continued interest and support for the overnight motorhome parking scheme at St Annes Swimming Pool Car Park. As has been mentioned, over the last year two key changes have/are being implemented. The first was the removal of a ramp at the far section of the lower car park. Along with the removal of 11 standard parking bays, this enabled enough space to be created for 7 oversized bays which are wider than standard bays and 8m long. Although the new bays are not solely for the use of motorhomes it is suggested that motorhomes do use them. Please note that if you are unable to locate a space within the oversized bays then you will still be able to use the standard bays though you will need to obtain a ticket for each bay your vehicle takes up.

The second change is to tariffs that are offered. For those who wish to stay overnight the original £5 from 6pm to 10am remains while those only wishing to stay during the day the standard tariff prices apply. However, following feedback, from 2nd April we will also be able to offer a whole-day plus multi-day tariffs. If you arrive between 9am and 6pm you will be able to obtain a ticket that lasts until 10am the following morning (1 day tariff) for £8. If you wish to stay two consecutive nights then the charge is £15 with three nights being £21. All day/multi-day tickets expire at 10am. The maximum length of stay remains 3 days with no return for 5 days.

The next issue that we are looking into is with regard the existing pay and display machines. Currently they only accept coins which, for a 3 day tariff, is a lot of change that will need to be put into the machines to obtain a ticket. As such we are currently looking into replacing our existing machines with ones that accept cashless payment; ideally debit/credit cards and ‘wave and pay’. It is hoped that these will be installed within the coming year to be ready for 2015.

Thank you again for your support and hopefully we will be able to implement further improvements over the coming 12 months.

The council position

All long-stay car parks allow motorhomes to park during the day. If a vehicle goes into another bay then they will need to obtain a ticket for as many additional bays as are taken. At the Swimming Pool Car Park the 8m bays will not be specifically for the use of motorhomes due to licensing and planning restrictions though it is expected that motorhomes would most benefit from this area.

Slight floor in the signage. It states Motirhomes up to 10 meters. Then when you get in to the car park only 8 meter bays are marked with more signs stating if not within allocated bay then you get a fine

Not rocket science. But they still get this wrong.
Not impressed by my. Own experience of lytham.
Far better places to stop over

nice view

Quite a few vans (24)here this weekend which is good as its showing the council it is popular. The down side was there were a couple of vans who arrived after 6 and then were off early so they didnt have to pay :mad2: :mad1: .Some nice bars and eateries on wood st which runs parallel to the main st (on the right from the sea front) as well as the carvery at Salters Wharf

personally I prefer a view when I return from pub but that's me.

Think I will have to check it out myself , not had the van out for a few weeks after a brief spell in hospital .

Not far to drive and a nice place

Let's see how nice the Aire is

The view was of the amount of vans on car park .To the left is the sea view which you would see when you returned from the pub.

well I know where sea is and know where car park is as I am local, personally I would not park there even if free much nicer local places but I do back councils support for motorhomes they do contain people, but there is a beautiful pier/carpark with view of estuary that has lots of space but no overnight parking suits me better.:king:

We didn't go to Lytham for the view, but for a "duty" stopover - it was convenient, quiet, secure, great for the dogs with the beach on the doorstep - we needed to overnight in the vicinity and our view was that if the local authority had made efforts to accommodate us (motorhomers) we would reciprocate their efforts by stopping in their designated place and paying the nominal (I understand that £5 is above the budget of some people - for us, compared with hotel fees, it was great value) charge.

Just a little confused here, you state that if a Motorhome takes up more than one bay then these bays have to be paid for. Do you mean during the day only they have to be paid for but not at night where the charge is £5 however many bays the Motorhome takes up. Because this is what your own website states "We offer overnight parking on St Annes Swimming Pool Car Park only. The fee for overnight parking (6pm to 10am) is a flat rate of £5 irrespective of how many bays are occupied. Multi-day tickets are available for 1, 2 or 3 days with prices applied per bay occupied. Multi-day tickets expire at 10am on the final day"

Just to add also, I think what you have done here to encourage Motorhomes is a breath of fresh air (no pun intended) and I cannot see why other councils don't encourage Motorhomes rather than hound them. I am sure it contributes to the economy of the town as so many will be staying over and buying drinks and having meals in the town.

Trying to find St Annes Swimming Pool on Googlemaps, but no luck. Can somebody tell me where the carpark in question is please.

Regards Rog

It is off South Promenade and the entrance is opposite East Bank Road.

If you find Lytham St. Annes Pier is it just south of that.

The postcode is FY8 1SW and that puts you right on it in Google Maps.

There is also a Toby Carvery Pub next door. You can sign up for offers. I have attached the Two that are valid. You dont need to print them off just save as a screen shot on your pc or email them to your smart phone. The Aire is behind the pub.
