This is an interesting point about perception. Couple of years ago I went into the local motorhome retailer in my new Tesla (company car) and the staff were all over me, wanting to show me vans. Went again a couple of months later in my 15 year old Suzuki Jimny and they all ran the other way .
If we have to have tradesmen round, I always leave the Tesla out the way. The price always goes up when that’s parked outside.

When i arrived in a 22 year old skoda they had a whip round for me.

HAHA! Absolutely. There are a lot of wealthy people where I live out in the sticks but you would never know it to look at them. One guy I have known for decades, long before I moved out to the Dales and he drives a tatty old Land rover and scuffs about in scruffy jeans and a tatty old Barbour jacket. He's worth in excess of £100m.

Sounds a bit like Clarkson -- scruffy jeans and an eighteen-year-old Range Rover!

Yeah thats him. There doesn't seem to be the same "keeping up with the joneses" out in the country, least not where we are. Its a proper mixed bag and nobody looks down on others either. It was a different story when I lived in Darlington in the last century.
