Costs a bleeding fortune, doesn't it!

Well, I have a buzzer for my steps so not actually done that (without the buzzer I would have, mind!), but I have driven away from home ripping the hookup lead out the plug a few times and had to stop a few times to go back and lock the fridge and cupboard doors :ninja:

So I decided to do something to fix it :idea-007:

And made my 'Don't Forget' Tags, etched on Birch ply :cool1:

The idea is when you have arrived on your site, you get your 'Don't Forget' Tags out and velcro the relavent ones around the steering wheel, like below

Far more visual than a check list, they work as a physical aide-mémoire for anything you may put out and potentially forget about and be very hard to drive away without noticing these on your wheel!

You can even have personalised ones (for fun, I made one for Rae (he hasn't seen it yet) after his post about Steadies and the various replies on that thread)

If anyone is interested, I will be putting these on eBay as Xmas gifts shortly, but Full Members of Wildcamping and associated sites can get a special price, with personalised tags if wanted rather than choosing from a set list.
It will be a set of 5 Tags (4 etched plus one blank to add yourself for something you forgot about), complete with 5 different coloured strips of Velcro, and a handy box to keep them all together in the glovebox ready to grab once parked up.

Went on a big holiday once..

Left the front door wide open.

Thanks to my neighbours for locking it.

Still at least it was not the "grey" water tap.

Do post up the eBay link. I will think of a few bespoke ones for James, such as e cigarette secure as he leaves it all over the place. And I might say hugs, ever important.

And i thought i was loosing my marleys,at least im now not the only one.:rolleyes2:

Went out for a Chinese takeaway last night. And last thing I said to OH was "just checking you locked (other) door as don't trust you" (said in non-serious way).
Then we left, got food, got back and guess who had not only NOT locked the door, but also left the keys in the lock ON THE OUTSIDE!
can't use that "don't trust you to lock the door" on her again now! :D

Good idea, used a similar thing on boats to remind me to open sea cock for the engine cooling .... they don't run long with it closed

Tried to beat two German M'H' s to the waste point, accelerated hard and ripped out hook up lead causing £32 of damage on a diy fix. The Germans still beat me to it!:lol-053:

As they say

Should be REMEMMINGEN

Perhaps a little OTT ?
Not an organised , methodical person . Very opposite to be honest . I have disciplined myself to start at rear of van closing sky lights etc . I then go round the van externally checking everything .
I'm quite proud of organising myself enough to follow this routine .
Yet I still , without fail , forget to lock the f***Ing cutlery drawer !

I have special long arms on either side of the motorhome to which someone has attached glass with some very shiny material glued onto the back of them.

They enable me to look behind myself without having to turn around.

If i see a blooming great orange cable sticking out of the side of the motorhome then i`ve forgot to unplug the EHU lead, if not then i`m ok to drive off.

The trouble is you need to remember to attach the correct tabs.
We have a very long EHU lead, as it's rarely used I'm paranoid that I will drive off without removing it, so I run it over the wing mirrors which leaves it draped across the windscreen which is pretty obvious when in the driving seat. The step has a buzzer, no doubt one day this will pack up and I'll drive off with step out.

A friend of ours stayed at Shardlow Caravan Site and drove off with the EHU attached, it didn't damage the van but cost her almost £450 to pay for the repairs to the hook up point, she didn't have a CCI which would have covered the damage so she paid for it to avoid going through her insurance, it was an expensive weekend

The trouble is you get so used to them, you go on auto-pilot and ignore them.

I know my mum and dad with a touring caravan used to have a tag on the roof light and when they opened it they hung the tag on the door handle.

I was once parked up on a site at Tyndrum beside a brand new twin axle caravan which was being towed by an equally new car (lottery win perhaps?) any way chummy hooked up and drove off with both rear legs down after ploughing a pair of very nice furrows for several yards he then wiped out a lighting bollard which was bad enough but the site owner was literally just a few feet away and witnessed the whole thing.

personally I just make a point of having a quick walk round before I leave

Opps!
I've been quite lucky with my EHU ripouts and caused no damage because the lead into the plug faces towards the back of the van (if that makes sense), so when I drive away the cable is pulled off the connections rather than ripping the plug out. So easy job to remake :)

(this is from more luck than intention as I didn't plan to drive away with the lead attached :D )

that is precisely the point of hanging them in such a visible place which would be impossible to ignore (unless you have a Braille Steering Wheel fitted as well?)

I guess with some folk it is like leading them to water ....

If i see a blooming great orange cable sticking out of the side of the motorhome then i`ve got in the wrong motorhome as my cable is blue.

Maybe you need to put laminted posters on the shiny things outside?

clearly chummy needs my tags :lol-053:

couple of months ago I did the usual walk round checking everything. sat in cab and thought all sorted. then heard a little voice in my head (actually came from the passenger seat) saying "what about the awning?".
Hmmm.

and that is why I need Don't Forget tags :scared:
