It sounds like the Philips "Navigator" road atlas. It covers most of the UK at a scale of one and a half miles per inch, which is about the most detailed you can get in an atlas of the whole UK! It shows footpaths and tracks as well as farms .......

Philip s Navigator Britain UK Road Atlas with route planner maps and local maps Road Atlases: Amazon.co.uk: Philip's: Books

Or you can get a "Truckers" version of the same atlas, which also shows bridge heights........

Philip's Navigator Trucker's Britain 2013 UK Road Atlas with bridge heights, route planner maps and local maps Road Atlases: Amazon.co.uk: Philip's: Books

If they are too bulky, you can also get the smaller Philips "Street Atlas" series. They have a slightly bigger scale, but they only cover one county area in each book. I have a few of these for the counties that I visit most (along with dozens of individual Ordnance Survey maps!).......

Philip's Street Atlas Derbyshire Philip's Street Atlases: Amazon.co.uk: Philip's: Books

Hope this helps! :)

That's the one he means their about £22 at most truck stops, the spiral bound ones seem smaller but are alike page for page we would be lost with out em !!! (Lost get it )
