Hi, just joined I retire in September been a nurse for many years just made it before the pensions and time increase massively. I feel relieved but sad for my younger collegues. I'll get over it.

I am looking for an economic (fuel) but we want a shower and toilet and room for dinner and relaxation on a rainy day. We want an awning also. Is this enough info to start a thread. I am completely new to this and any help would be a bonus.

I will be travelling with my partner, we don't really want to spend much more than £15,000 can we do this do you think.
Looking forward to hearing rom anyone

Regards
Patty

Hi,
I found my motorhome on ebay.
You need to study them carefully and make a list of your requirements under essential and desirable. Then try to tick as many boxes as you can.

For me low milage was essential, The cost of course we had a budget, As I started looking layout became very important.

Some low milage vehicles can have high wear as some are just lived in.

Look at the tyres not just for tread but also for cracking on the side walls.

If there's no ariel fitted you will probably need to get one fitted.

Many come with desirable extras like cycle carrier or solar panel on the roof.

Chec k there is a seperate leisure battery and that it works.

Check the fridge works on Elec and gas.

Check the gas heater works

Check the gas cooker and oven.

Check water heater.

If you buy from a dealer ask for a habitation check this will cover most internal equipment in the van.

My wife is a nurse unfortunatley she is set to lose out on her pension big time after paying in for many many years it is heart breaking and affects everyones plans.
We were going to wait to buy a motorhome until I retire in 5 years but we thought what the hell lets go for it. We absolutely love it and go away any chance we have.

If you are patient and keep looking you will find a gem like us.

Just to give you an idea we looked at a Compass aventguard 200 which was 4 berth 04 plate 6000 miles on the clock for £16000. But it was the wrong layout for us. This was a private deal so of course you get no guarantee.

Hi and welcome. We started with a LDV Convoy Sahara. This had captain front seats (turn round to use) a front dinnette, shower, loo, grill, rings, fridge (but no oven) and a dinnette at the back which made up into a double bed. We used to leave it made up. The front seats mad 2 single beds if wanted. We purchased this van for £15,000 about 9 years ago. We had a fiamma roll out awning and a free standing small awning. We also have a 24kg border collie!!
See Devon Sahara for the type of van.

:welcome: and just keep looking your van is out there somewhere. I brought ours for just £4k but then I prefer older vans so I can update them to what I like. As Morgan says make a list and go out at every oportunity to look at dealers and get a feel for them to see what suits you. Ebay will give you lots to look at but you can't beat sitting in them. Good luck in your search :drive:

Hi and welcome to the site. :welcome:
You have made a good start by finding this great site, it's full of information on just about everything.
Like the others have said already, you need to have a good look around at what is out there for your budget and decide what things are must have's for you. Buying private will be cheaper but you have no come backs if something doesn't work, a dealer will be more expensive but hopefully will sort out any problems the van may have?
Good luck :goodluck:

I have an Autosleeper Duetto which is great have a search for them on ebay.

As far as fuel goes Most Hi-top will do between 25 and 30 Mpg.

Be careful on Ebay lots of scams

Hi, I have been looking for a while but just want to share what I have learn't. There are lots of scams on ebay with vans that dont exist from sellers who want you to pay up front and then deliver to you anywhere in the country. Take my advise view anything before bidding and dont part with any money. If it sounds too good to be true it often is. There are also scams on auto trader and gumtree. I have now bought from a garage and am looking forward to picking up my transit hightop this weekend.

Hope you find the perfect van for you.

Don't know where you are Patti but if you could get to the Peterborough Motorhome show next week 27,28,29th April there'll be hundreds of vans to look at so you can get an idea of what you want and what's out there

Sue:)

hi oasis. nice vans the sahara . my neighbour built his on a convoy .very similar to the sahara . made the bed at the back higher . permenant as well. he also managed to get the front seats to turn .he had the dual front passenger seats . he made his own swivels. but neat and suprising lot of room in them. think they take some beating for size and space.

Have you thought about a self build? For £15k you could get a low milage 3 year old van and fit it out to your own specification.

I've got a LWB Hitop Citroen Relay fitted out as a 3 berth, complete with Bathroom, kitchen and seating. I average about 35mpg and that's going up and down the Dales.
