Forgive me if this topic has already been covered!

Next weekend I will be taking my daughter to Falmouth university, Cornwall. I have booked a site for 2 nights as I will be on my own, no dogs, no husband! Bit scared to wild camp without the dogs or 1 at least!! :dog:

The last time my husband and I returned from Cornwall in took us 10 hours:rolleyes2:

What do people recommend for entertainment while driving long lonely journeys?

A husband:banana:

OK serious now, you are limited because it has to be something that doesn't distract you, I drove from Castle Donington to La Marina in Spain in a Ford Fiesta Combo and drove 12hrs each day for two days, I loaded a USB stick with 50's and 60's music and I sang all the way there, I arrived just in time to meet Maggy in the bar for 'happy hour' and my voice was too hoarse to order a drink but I loved the journey

Bat out of hell on full blast sounds like a good idea :scooter: (ok so there wasn't a motorbike icon!)

What are people's thoughts on audio books?

Radio 4 and audiobooks, many available, 3 for a tenner in The Works.

Well at least you won't have any kids moaning "are we nearly there yet?" and "I'm bored" every five minutes. :raofl:

Personally I would just enjoy the peace and quiet such as it is in a camper. Just drive carefully and take regular breaks.

.

Oh my, well if you are going on the M5 at all, I don't envy you.

My son is in Uni in Plymouth and I went down to visit him last month. The journey normally takes about 5 and a half hours. I left Plymouth at 2.30pm and it was bumper to bumper, start stop, all the way from Exeter to Bristol. I didn't get to the Severn Bridge until 8pm. Horrid. Didn't get home until 9.30.

Good luck, and enjoy the space without hubby and dogs. I am widowed and love travelling alone, just 'be' in the moment and go with the flow and have fun.

sing

I am with young Tezz33 sing all the way there and all the way back. But drive careful and take breaks I've jut done it with hubby and grandkids but I might as well have been alone as they slept most of the way home.

I agree with Tezz, put a mass of music on your iPod or a stick, set it to random and let the songs drag up the memories.

I've done plenty of long stints over the years and have found that talking books take too much concentration, but you can sing your heart out when on your own and don't have to watch people cringing and running for cover.:banana::banana:

Hymie.

Nobody mentioned lots of coffee.
I used to do a booze run to France with a friend of mine. We would leave from Hertfordshire in the early hours on the morning and be back home within 12 hours. We used to drink 2 strong cups of coffee on the way back and it worked as well as taking ProPlus caffeine pills.

I'm a fruit tea & normal tea person. I probably have 2 cups of coffee a month, if that, & then it will most likely be decaffeinated.

I have to keep coffee with caffeine in the cupboard for my Dad. I used to only keep decaff & he suffered from terrible headaches until we realised it was withdrawal symptoms. During the same visit I took him to France for the day & we had a seafood lunch. He had an allergic reaction to oysters. At that point I think my Mother thought that I was trying to get my inheritance early.

Thanks for the advise guy but it's decaf all the way. PG also do a decaf tea so I drink that most of the time! My husband made me a cup of coffee last night...had a really bad nights sleep.

I suppose the more you drink the more you have to stop so taking a flask is not such a bad idea!

I find listening to audio books sends me to sleep, so I would no be able to do that, I am with Tezza33 and like to listen and sing to the music, and as I am not usually doing the driving I dance to some of the songs - sitting down - it must look really funny to others probably look like I have st invitas dance (not sure of spelling too tired to care) With regards to tea, I stopped drinking coffee because of IBS and I now drink Sainsbury's cheapest brand about 15p for 30 bags and it is very good tea. :goodluck:

My cup has a lid on it! Hahaha the most dangerous part about it is putting it back in the cup holder!:danger:

If you are at all inclined you could put your favorite song on repeat and learn all the words.

Drinking cup of hot tea at traffic lights once, bus ran into the back of van. Had to sort out insurance details etc, looking like I had wet myself. lol
