Hi Gang,
Right,,,Reflective Vehicle Tape !. OH WHAT A MINE FIELD.
I want to Put Some Reflective Tape On The Back, Sides & Front of The Nest At Low Level So when I Crawl back from a hard Nights Shuffling & a Rumaging I will be able to see where I Parked The Nest a bit more clearly, as well as bringing attention To appendages Like Rear Storage Box, & Wing Mirrors to those that Follow & those that approach while Driving.
Now right from the start I ‘Kinda’ Know that it’s
Red for the Stern,
Yellow/Amber/White for the Sides,
White for the Front

BUT

The Guidelines I have researched ONLY seam to relate to ‘COMMERCIAL HGV’ vehicles that demand a ECE 104 Standerd Tape At 2inch wide Blaa Blaa Blaa Blaa, @ a Cost of £LOL LOL LOL LOL, Or there abouts.

Now

Would this ‘Law’ apply to Privately owned Motorhomes !.
I was thinking of using ‘Solas’ Tape on the Front & Sides, But it appears that Although it’s ok for Hi Vis Jacket, Life Rafts, RNLI applications, Life Jackets, & all manner of -

It’s NOT good enough to mark your Wing Mirrors on your Motorhome as it isn’t stamped ECE104 Or Whatever.

So

Any ideas, Have you used anything ?.

Go for whatever flavour you like as long as it's got 3M on it .....
who cares about regulations ...no one can be arsed bollocking the piss bottle chucking fraternity that splatter the front of their LGV/HGVs with any colour lights they fancy including blue .

3m reflective tape | eBay

i nicked some sleeves off some traffic cones. cut it into strips and circles which i stuck all over the front of my van to make it more noticeable . it was months later that i was given a lift from a mate and saw the front of my van at night in his main beams
it looked mental!
like a deranged xmas tree
i decided it was a dangerous distraction and took most of it off

You see what I mean Peeps,
They don’t make it easy for the average Zombie Driver do they.

My Vehicle is 22years Old, So Before it became ‘Mandatory’ for ‘Newly Registered HGVs’
It’s NOT an Commercial HGV OVER 7.5 Ton.
It’s NOT a Trailer.

But it IS Taxed as a PHGV At 4500kG .

Oh the space in which my Brain Use to Be HURTS!.

Have tried the yellow reflective tape down the sides and red to the rear of our van and the red lasts longer as the yellow fades. So assuming that cheap is not always better.

Hmm.

How about some of those cheapie led lights instead, the sensor ones that come on and off at when you get near to them?
Aldi & Lidl sometimes have them in.

You could stick one on each obstruction you want to avoid when stumbling home in the dark :)

Mind you, they might be going on and off all night if there be creatures wandering about! Maybe a bit of a daft idea after all....

Just trying to think laterally! :rolleyes2:

As far as I know, any HGV over 7.5 tonnes and registered after 2011 has to have reflective tapes that meet the regulations.

If your motorhome is not an HGV over 7.5 tonnes and registered after 2011 it doesn't have to reflective tapes that match the regulations. It is as simple as that.

If you choose to add reflective tapes that don't meet the regulations, that's fine. If you don't choose to, that's fine too.

Hi ya HD,
Now I’m actually glad you not only posted that, But actually ‘Read’ Or interpret that the same way I did.
But (Apparently there’s always a But when Trying to do the right thing).
I can’t find the link now, However somewhere in the reams of Confusing information I have looked at when researching this I remember seeing something along the lines of -
If Reflective Tape is fitted then it will be ‘Treated’ as a Light !.

BTW Has anyone EVER ACTUALLY heard a Chicken Fart ?.

I mean I know their Poo Smells & all that, But Why Don’t their Farts Smell Like eggs the way some of mine do !.
Anyway as you wher !

Just do not use white on the rear or red on the front, and don't use blue. Why give them a excuse to pull you by using blue.

As this, don't go OTT, and some red on rear, white on front and amber down the sides, did this myself on a previous vehicle.

If you regularly wild camp in remote places you by would you fit reflective tape?

Hi ya,
As a Fulltime Livaboard The Nest is my only Home, & I Wild Camp around 85% of the time, The remaining time spent on the Occasional Site, Or a Private Park Up For Witch I have permission to do so.
I know what you mean in being Low Key, But I don’t think that a Bit of Reflective Tape On Wing Mirrors, Rear Box, & At Low Level On the Side Skirt is Too Much.
I am just Concerned that it’s going to be a ‘Puller’ because it’s not a certain ‘Make or Standerd’
This is what I’ve Fitted -

I think it’s just enough to give a Second glance to some, I Hope !

I doubt you'd ever be pulled, and I might be wrong, but I'm fairly certain triangle shaped reflectors should only be used on trailers or vehicles being towed.
Mentioning as we're talking rules and regulations.

Hi ya,
Yeah, I’m kinda of the same frame of mind, But you know what it’s like when it’s on your mind & ‘Trying’ To Do the right thing.

As for the Triangle Thingys, a Few MOTs ago (I Think it was) I started a thread ‘Correct Ass Adornments’ with reference to Again Trying To Do the right thing as far as Rear Box Or Protrusion markings.
Like most my threads or posts I didn’t get a Huge response as I tend to talk rubbish most of the time but those that did wher helpful on the whole.

It’s been like that ever since, Gone through a few VCPs, & TWO MOTs since, & the last one being at ‘Geoff Goulds’ a MASSIVE commercial MOT station that is quite strict.
Nothing Mentioned

I will post both the links to the above in a moment

I was impressed with the reflective tape I see surrounding the rear of many trucks and considered it myself, but my brother who once followed us to Spain one year said that because our lights were low down on the rear of our motorhome, he could not see if we were turning left or right if there were a vehicle between us.
I fitted extra LED lights at the top of each corner of my motorhome rear, which shows red lights, brakes and indicators.
I know this does not solve your "wheres me van" dilemma, when coming back from the pub "shedded", but if you have the type of alarm/central locking that activates your indicators, you would just need to walk/stagger in the direction of the amber flashing lights? :)

Hi ya,
Yeah I’ve Currently got High Level (Central) Slit Type Break Light winged either side by Red Reflective Tape, & Mid Level Red Lights obviously either side on the Upright corner mouldings.
If you look hard enough you might just see them on the picture, But the sun was bright!.

NZ you will have to paint it pink, then no one will miss it.
