hi guys

just fitted a new leisure battery.. the old one was on its last legs... i tested the new one and its fine. however, when i flick the switch from veh to aux inside the van its dead as a dodo..

if i plug the mains into the van the systems work.. switch it off and it goes dead again.

I've checked the fuses and the trip switches.. all in order..

I've got the polarity right to..

so now I'm stuck..

can anyone help..

cheers jon

check you have power to veh-aux switch, maybe faulty.also check earth/neg wire from battery is connected securely

Look closer for a Maxi fuse

i had the same problem , mine was a 40 amp maxi fuse, similar to an ordinary fuse but much larger physically in actual size, orange in colour,, check again .

cheers jon
.....

thanks for the replies.. will the 40amp fuse be with the little 5 and 10 amp ones or where the junction box type thing is located in the wardrobe...

and how do i check i have power to veh-aux switch,?

should i have a green and yellow wire connected to the battery (also check earth/neg wire from battery is connected securely)

cheers guys

just checked in the van.. there is no earth wire at all in the leisure battery housing..

also i check the box of fuses and the junction box in the wardrobe.. couldn't see the 40 amp fuse..

any ideas

hi guys does anyone know where the 40 amp fuse will be located... compass avant-garde 400

Jon, just a suggestion, update your profile with a general location, there maybe someone close to you who maybe willing to have a look at your problem, but as no-one knows where you are no-one is offering at the moment.

So what did you connect the earth (-ve) terminal of the new leisure battery to??

There must be a thick (usually black wire or metal strap) that is connected to the vehicle body and goes to the negative post terminal on the top of the battery.

This should have been present when you removed the old battery ... there should have been 2 separate wires to remove from the top posts.

If you don't have an earth connection your battery will not work.

pull switch from casing and connect battery then test with a meter to see if power is there by holding one probe to a good earth[ earth is the same as negative, should have explained that.the whole vehicle is earth and there should be a good connection from the leisure battery negative terminal to clean metal] and the other to the switch terminals one at a time.[so much easier to show than explain!]

i usually take a little movie on my fone, then upload it to youtube and show people. i had problems with diesel getting through in my car, so made a little movie, esp as it was a german bmw fan page, and my written german is pretty naf.. with the movie they couldnt instantly tell me where the problem was. ( had tried for a month on and off to sort it myself prior with no luck lol). im not really good at english either so finding it hard to follow this thread.

hi guys. I've pulled out the battery. there is one wire coming from within the body of the motorhome into the leisure battery housing which is fully enclosed. the wire is in a black casing. when you split the black wire slightly within it are 2 wires. 1 black 1 red. there are no other wires visible whatsoever.

I've checked all the fuses under the bonnet and within the habitation area. all good. the battery is new and working so I'm stuck now.. currently in germany so can't take to a local sparkies...

think there should be more than two wires what does it work off a control panel if so what model no might be zig cf something will have look if you can see model number

back in the uk now

right guys I'm back from our 4 week trip round europe in the van with no leisure battery.. so now i need to sort out my problem..

if anyone is local to me ad can spend a few mins looking over my van i would be very grateful.. I'm in stockport..

or if anyone would look at some photos ill gladly email over...

I'm at a bit of a loss..

cheers jon

Are you sure it's actually wired through your zig unit? Our last motorhome had a zig unit, but we discovered only one tiny part of it was actually in use.

Jon

I'm busy this weekend, so I can't help immediately.

Are you available during the week at all?

I live just north of Macc ...

Regards

Chris

cheers jon

big thanks to chris who solved my problem

thanks chris. very patient and knowledgeable over the phone..

thanks for your time

cheers jon

I'm glad it's fixed :)

For the record, it turned out to be problem with the fuse in the positive feed to the leisure battery.

It's so often the simple things that get you!
