Left hooker how do you

We have an oven in our van and it is necessary.

In winter, a proper dinner is much more warming in the evening.

Our dogs do not have tinned dog food. They have cooked chicken (which needs an oven) and mince.

We also used it for toast but it was pretty poor. The double skillet now acts as a toaster.

I cannot believe that there is an argument starting over ovens. :( It must be pre Xmas tension. :)

I don't have an oven. I've not really space for one but if I did have one I'd probably not use it much anyway.

It's down to eating habits really. If you can't be without your Sunday roast or Yorkshire pudding you'd probably need one!

But I find a heavy cast iron grill pan is great for loads of meals (I don't have a grill either except an electric one which sits most of the year in a storage locker). I've also made a Dutch oven out of a non stick cake tin with removable base. This sits on the grill pan with another non stick dish for a lid. It's surprising what you can cook on a rings. Boiling, grilling, frying and heating in the Dutch oven. OK, it probably wouldn't work for baking cakes, but for heating stuff up like pizza and bread it is fantastic. And it heats up far faster than a normal oven due to the smaller size.

Hi - Use a skillet, bought it at the Lincoln show, used it yesterday had roast chicken with roasts. Tokk a hour start to finished and fed 4 adults. One of the best things we have, its let us get rid of most of our pans. More room for beers!

Yep you don't need an oven to cook chicken or other poultry. There are many ways. Last Christmas dinner I cooked a whole duck for two people without an oven. Simply jointed the duck, and boiled the pieces till tender in a large pan. Then removed large slices of meat and crisped up the outside and skin in the grill pan. Made orange sauce with brandy in another pan. It tasted wonderful, even better than roast duck. It's similar to some of the Chinese "twice cooked" recipes. I added the bones back to the stock I had used to boil the duck, and used that with other ingredients to make duck soup for boxing day. Nothing wasted!

I have fulltimed for 3 and a half years, and when I bought my van I was persuaded (against my better judgement) an oven was not a necessity.

Indeed a lot of French owned mobile homes have no ovens.

I spend a lot of time working on French campsites albeit at the moment working in Holland and I have the benefit of EHU as part of the job.

This year I relented and spent 58 euros on an electric oven and quite frankly it is the best investment I have ever made in the Motorhome.

I tend to stick it outside on a table stick in a chicken etc and go off and work for a couple of hours. Toad in the holes etc partly cooked baguettes have all become possible. It is a cheaper way of cooking in my experience and I think I have already recovered the investment.

Feb to Nov the site I lived on ban bbqs fullstop because of the fire risk.

Granted it is as much use as a chocolate fireguard when I am wilding, it takes up space etc but the negatives are outweighed by the positives in my opinion.

If I had to chuck the microwave in the bin or my oven, Microwave everytime.

Perhaps because the motorhome is my home, and not purely a recreational vehicle my views are slightly different
