Hi, we have just put led's in our van but they are flickering - is this normal or are they not working properly

They should not flicker so that said.
Is the electric hook up connected?
Are they running on the battery with the engine stood?
Do they flicker rapidly or randomly?

The thing is with LEDs they have no persistence and if the supply is fluctuating even slightly then they will alter there brightness very quickly which is something filament bulbs wont do. so just try them on the battery with the engine stood and the EHU disconnected and see what happens if they still flicker put them on a battery on thier own to see if the LEDs are faulty it could be something which is running and causing the supply to vary (I'm thinking something like the water pump) or a dodgy solar charger which could be eliminated by having a look at night.

Thanks for that, Ron says (because I am not technical and don't understand these lectricky things at all) there are stem things with several bulbs on and just the odd one on the stem flickers (I think that's what he said) reason why I doing the asking is because I type quicker that he does (well I can do something)

thats a faulty one ,i had one or two like that.

LED's should not flicker. Is the lighting circuit straight from a 12v supply or does it come from another device. Could be the bulbs so it maybe worth getting another make to try first. I have just fitted a couple of extra bright LED reading lamps and they are fine and I have just removed all the florescent ceiling lighting and replaced it with LED Strips no sign of any flickering and they were cheap ones 5m strip for £8.

Switch everything off including the charger and try again. You may have to remove fuses to make sure every thing is off or just connect one up to a 12v battery and see what its like.

Just recently our 4 led ceiling light plus the led in the showeroom has become dim.
The 1 ceiling light and 6 reading spotlughts lights all led in the back are fine.
I swapped the one ceiling light in the back for the dim one in the front now that is dim.
They were changed from fluorescent bulbs last year, all worked fine till 3 days ago.
now off ehu.
The led over the kitchen used to flicker, more so when showeroom light was switched on which was then a fluorescent, now an led.
Arrr what's happening?

We contacted the seller and they are going to replace them (got them off e bay needless to say)

??? Well I could Google something like "Differing Types Of LED" but rather than shift through unnecessary information as you mentioned the two types. What are smd LEDs what was the "Old Class" and what is the difference.
If you would be so kind. Thank you.

Replacing Labcraft fluorescent lights with LEDs

Hi we are just about to convert our Labcraft flourescent tubes for LED..any help would be appreciated....

I've had an issue with pulsing LEDs, it turned out to be when I was on hook up the leisure battery charger was constantly pulsing current to the leisure battery and that was enough to make the lights pulse, turning the charger off solved the problem.

I fitted LEDs in my parents kitchen and they went dim after a power cut... (they live out in the country) my father then turns on his generator which did not give a steady voltage, which LEDs do not like, so I had to change the lamp fittings (LEDs).
LEDs do not like voltage change, so that could be the problem. Fluctuating voltage!

I bought a long string from ebay and cut them down to size. They were marked where to cut so just cut to nearest. you need a soldering iron for the cable to attach to the led or you can now buy a screw fitting. Ours has worked really well but not as bright as i thought they would be. Certainly not good enough for my old eyes to read by.

I took the fittings to bits and removed tubes etc and then stuck the led strip on in place of the tube. Kept original fittings so just plug back in when done. Took longer to work out how to get the florecents out than to replace the tubes with led's.

Cost of led's 5 meter strip was about £20 and arrived from China in about 10 Days ..

My G4 2pin led replacements for the 10w halogen down lighter bulbs don't flicker. But, my led strip light main light does, but only when the webasto diesel heater is firing up.

I'd agree with others - it's a voltage fluctuation brought about by some other electrical item like the batt charger or similar. I do wonder why the strip led is more sensitive? Could be cos it's a long series string of LEDs or perhaps the voltage drop on the strip led is a bit more.
