Leaking toilet

Started with a bit of a smell and then a leak around the base of the toilet. Discovered the leak was also into the cassette cupboard. Yuk!

We had a new spare cassette and used that ... tested it with water and it seemed to work So we assumed that the seal on the cassette had got a bit flattened. After 2 days, it was leaking again. Grr. Fortunately we can use the campsite toilets ... but we would like to sort it before we leave when borders re-open ... eventually.

It is a Dometic.

Any other ideas as to the cause of the leak and how to rectify?

You're not far off there!!!

Can you put something under cassette to give it a couple mm lift to create a seal maybe an old piece of towel that would help catch anything that might leak as well.

Is it the cassete or the anti vac valve, these are known to leak.

perhaps not relevant in this instance, but, in hot weather (close to 30c) I get a small amount of water gathering in the moulding of the carrier under the cassette. It is water only. My theory is that it is the residual water used during the flush. The small amount that takes time to ‘slide’ down the sides of the bowl after the flap has been closed.

My theory is that in very warm weather there is some sort of heat related warping or shrinkage of plastic or rubber in the area where the bowl mates up with the cassette..

Doesn’t happen in the Uk, so as said perhaps not relevant in your situation.

We put some cardboard under the cassette wheels which lifts it and seems to reduce this leak . Been meaning to source some thin plastic which will last longer . A bit of a bodge but did improve matters for us

Yep, getting warm here ... but we’ve been a lot hotter and had no problems. And sadly, it isn’t water. Yuk!

Going to try slightly lifting the cassette up.

Cured similar problem by placing some vinyl flooring material under cassette.

FWIW, we had a similar situation. Opening the gate before use didn't quite resolve the problem but it helped. I bought a 'fresh up' kit (new cassette and seat) rather than mess around fitting new seals and valves to the old cassette and this sorted the problem out. However, mine's a Thetford. That said, I note that the OP has already tried another cassette so I wonder whether the issue is a dry lip seal. If so, removing the cassette, thoroughly cleaning the lip seal and the mating surface at the top of the locker before lubricating the lip seal with a silicone spray might do the trick? HTH, Geoff

We also open trap first!
All cleaned and silconed. Will hunt out some thin plastic to raise cassette up.

UPDATE
We put a couple of strips of plastic along the base of the cassette cabinet to raise up the cassette. This seems to have worked. Day three of no leak. So thank you very much for your suggestions, as always.
