I’m told it was -6c overnight Barry (but I was sleeping at that point) surprised at how many people camping, not just motorhomes but tents also.

We’ve never seen so many at this time of year, threes an old couple in an old VW camper haven’t moved for 6 days.

I drove past them all and went to the pub for lunch 😁

There were a few Tents at the Brothers Water campsite today and a fair few motorhomes. Bowness club site was rammed and the road outside. I bet its still quieter than Cumbria up there though. It was like a bloody summer holiday bank holiday weekend there today. Hated it! :ROFLMAO: Well the traffic at least. I get a bit territorial as I believe its my Lake District and not theirs and they should all Fook off!!!

It’s much quieter here, but at the same time much busier than other years. They’ve put in a number of overnight parking places, but they seem not to be used.
It used to get a bit abused up that end of the loch with tenters.

In the summer we used to get lots or Tents, mainly at the station end, not so much nowadays. But as I said there’s been lots of activity the last few weeks. We did have a van conversation on the drive last week, I was of a mind to let them stay but he was quite rude, so we suggested he move on before I moved it for him, that said not seen any problems really just more activity.

I wonder if the camping newbies have discovered they can go away in winter. That said most of the traffic today was stuffed with cars full of luggage and people. Away for New Year perhaps. One things for sure the hotels, bars, restaurants and sites were booming. In Keswick they were literally queuing to get in a couple of places. Can't wait to get over there in the van and the Honda Biff Chariot for a week or two in Spring though.

Me too, only because I remember it from 50 years ago and would rarely meet any other hill walker. Same goes for the Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales.
Incidentally, Izzy's family originate from Bardsea. We had the chance of buying her grandfathers house after he died in 1979. It was called Brookhill and had a coach yard, asking price was £15k and well within our means but we ended up buying in Chorlton, Manchester instead. What a mistake that was, stolen car, stolen van, stolen motorbike, burglary and another stolen car.
I doubt that would have happened in Bardsea!

No probably not. The lake district is not crime free though. When I had a boat there they were always getting nicked and a local once told me that Aira Force car park on Ullswater is the most robbed car park in the country. Bullshit of course but it does have a reputation. There are a fair few deprived areas around the coast so the wealthy hot spots in the middle are easy pickings.

We wanted to have lunch in Skipton today, but our local we use often was 30 minutes wait for a table and 45 for a meal, found a new to us place, grub was expensive so not too busy, but we had a good meal, Tescos carpark was full no places, everywhere was really busy as were the roads, we've never seen anywhere so busy, very odd.

I guess Kev people are staying in the UK more now and have a bit more spending cash available.

crikey
don't you think you should have checked that they were still alive. My van is like a fridge in this weather, colder inside than out.
