Last week i was at my brother in laws for dinner and saw for myself the problems that has made many locals unhappy, Now because someone that called to the council office and was rude to his wife he ask me not to put any more post about it on here, sorry. But what i will say is if anyone is there now or going in the near future please make sure you only park nothing left outside and don,t lift up any manholes It could get very costly if seen.

As much as I like wild-camping. The situation that develops in certain locations at certain times of the year makes things difficult for the rest of us. If the people using such places as La Azohia persist in "breaking the rules" then punish them hard, but leave the one nighter, parking only, fraternity to enjoy the views and solitude!!! before they move on.

We live 35km inland and my husband likes to fish but we won't/cannot visit, even for a night, if it makes the situation worse/we get caught up in an eviction!!!

I also go there fishing but luckily i am parked on privet ground last time i was there some Dutch had a fire on the beach and left a load of mess when we came in with the boat many locals were not happy

Hi Ken we were there last week for 1 night camped in barranca and have to admit taking advantage of the manhole on the adjacant front car park under cover of darkness. someone has welded a handle to the lid which i thought to be helpful? Did this cause a problem , I hope not but would welcome your advise as we love it there and dont want to offend.

Ok you could be looking at up to 500 euro fine for that also if they get there way soon there will be cameras installed when the locks are fitted to the manhole covers

It had Saniemento on it which I have been told meant sewage but it was not empty so maybe some type of cesspit . No worries I will just use the aire at Calnegrie instead then but will miss the sunsets.

Having never emptied down a man hole drain, can I ask, is the one you are talking about a raw sewerage drain or just water drain?

Yes it is raw sewerage but some of them men have to go down them if they are blocked nice a going down the ladder and getting some one S--t all over them

Ok I get that. If they are not happy with me sharing their sewage facility then I will go down the road to Calnegrie where they have proper facilities . Hopefully one day La Azohia will have similar . Will definitely miss those sunsets and still a stunning place for a day visit

Don't ask why I know this! But fundamentally there are 2 types of sewerage inspection manholes (applies generally not just Spain) the wet and the dry.
In the wet type one or more pipes converge at the manhole and discharge into the base and an outlet pipe takes the sewage away so the m/h has sewage in it hence, wet. With the dry type the pipes actually connect to form junctions and have sealed access panels (rodding eyes) which can be removed for maintenance so the m/h is dry. Interesting eh:lol-061:

A good thread, i have learned something and it has got me thinking (rare ) . For some time I have been thinking that motorhomes are going to have to pay for facilities but the opposite is also true that towns cant enjoy benefits of motorhome visits if they dont provide either free shared or paid for facilities. Any views ?

That could happen but I never told you that

I was there for the first time recently. A couple who are frequent visitors told me the locals had put the handle on the manhole cover and it was acceptable to use, even in daytime, which I did.

Sorry to say but they are wrong it is not acceptable to be used for that the locales are not happy with all the vans that now turn up there I was in the bar down there
last Sunday and my brother in-law and a few locals where talking about that and the rubbish some leave behind when they move of which i saw in the morning when we took his dog for a walk

Hi Ken, needless to say neither I, nor any of the people who were on the place I parked, would ever have left any rubbish. I was on the site right at the end, by the sea, which could only take a handful of vans. Everyone I met were respectful of the situation. Re the manhole handle ... I wad told the locals had put it on for "us" 😊

I have used manholes in the past but only if I'm sure they are sewer ones & only as a last resort, I would always try to find an aire or campsite if I can. The problem will come that some people will empty their toilet without any regard for others if they can't find any easy access. I think everyone would agree that the ideal solution would be a designated motorhome emptying point, we've found most campsites will for a small fee allow you to empty your waste & fill up. After a break of a few years we are heading down to Spain next month, we will probably use the camper places that seem to be gaining popularity, used to find campsites too expensive when just staying a couple of nights.

Yes you're correct, some wild campers have bad habits, all nationalities,
including the British.
Some daytripping beachgoing Spanish leave rubbish, and just about every
McDonalds,Burgerking establishment has piles of rubbish left everywhere but
the correct place.

What are you going to do about them? As for dog crap transgressors, hang them, no on 2nd thoughts that's too lenient!

Short term the only answer is for the instant heavy fines to be actually applied.
Long term it's got to be education.

In general I find Spanish less likely to leave rubbish but don't see many picking up dogshit !
We , motorhomers , can only leave a good impression . Unfortunately there are some real thoughtless to$$ers about

I know what you mean & quite agree.

The missus trod in a big pile of dog-sh** last night at the aire in Miranda-del-Ebro.

Luckily there’s a tap for rinsing cassettes where I scrubbed her shoes.
