We're heading up there,tomorrow, for Saturday's Show.
We've been told it's fantastic.
Anyone going ?
Any local knowledge or parking advice would be welcome.

Hi, nearest overnight spots would be CR Willington or CR Page Bank. I haven't stayed overnight in either but have been there whilst at work (I travel around that area in my job).
Both are on the banks of the river. Willington being the bigger of the two, Page bank is tucked away quite nicely, both are quite pleasant.
Hope it helps

Thanks Dave. I've had a shufti online,at Willington.. Looked ideal.. I wondered if there was a snag?
We'll aim for that.

No snags that I can see down there. I have seen one or two vans parked up during the day but like I said I haven't stayed there overnight (bit too close to home for me) There is a car park at the top of the hill as you turn into the Kynren site but I dont know what the situation is there. I haven't seen the Kynren show but I have heard a lot of good reports about it, they do have a huge show area down there. Enjoy !

First of all Kynren is a good show and I’m sure you will enjoy it.

You can park your Motorhome in North Bondgate car park in Bishop Auckland as there are several dedicated Motorhome parking bays to the right hand side. To my knowledge, there are no signs regarding overnight stays but I may be wrong. However, the Durham County Council website says that cooking and overnight camping is not permitted. The organisers do arrange event parking at various sites in the town and takeover several car parks with shuttle buses laid on to take you to the venue. The North Bondgate car park is a short walk to the venue - probably 20 minutes.

Also worth a mention, I heard that the organisers allowed overnight parking on the venue site for £15 per night 2 years ago - not sure if they did it last year. Worth a try if you call them on tel:0333 300 3028

If you want me to pop in to the car park, please let me know. 👍

I’ve just checked and it appears that North Bondgate car park is allocated for event parking which means it will be closed to the public from about 6pm. It is designated as “Car Park E - Red” on their website.

From experience you need to have booked a car park place unless you are prepared to pay an arm and a leg.

Also roads around the area are gridlocked from well before the event so it will take an age to get there.

We are interested in going as we found details when at the Puy de Fou difference being, when we first went to the Puy we could stay in the car park and in recent years they have built an aire-when will the Kynren management do the same for ticket holders?

I go past the willington CR twice a day on the way to and from work. Should be fine, often vans parked in there.

The LR on the A688 should also be fine

That was the case 2 years ago when it first opened - the exit procedure in particular was insane. It took me 1 hour 20 minutes to get home.......... 5 miles away. Last year was much better though as lessons had been learned.

Yes, you do need to reserve a car park space when booking tickets. A shuttle bus service is put on to reduce congestion.

We've booked car parking.
When we asked about overnighting, they said no.
We plan to get our heads down until the car park is clear... And see what happens.
If they get snotty, we'll drive back to the POI, hopefully on empty roads.
Perfect planning prevents p155 poor performance.

All part of the adventure!

It wasn't getting out that was the problem, it was getting in! I'm only 4 or 5 miles away on a signposted route and it took a lot of local knowledge of the road network and Bishop Auckland streets that got me there in time.

Dave

Thanks for the heads up, Dave.
We'll get there tomorrow and have a couple of flypasts, to get the feel of the place.
The Prince Bishops' folk are a generous bunch, aren't they?

One thing I will say is, having been onto the Kynren site doing my job inspecting electric sub stations, I found the security to be extremely strict. To the point of having three security guys looking over my shoulder, unless they were bored, it was during the day and before the show season started. I soon remedied the situation, locked myself in the sub station saying "Sorry guys I have to shut the doors for security reasons" :lol-049:

Pity about the overnighting, it would make life so much easier.

We went to the tall ships at Hartlepool a few years back. Got chatting to security when we parked up, made them a brew and the upshot was we got to stay on the parking spot got the three days. It might have been a bit extra for them but made life easier for us.

Hope you enjoy it. Give us a report. I read about it last but forgot about it.

Oh, what a great POI. Toilet, rubbish bins. level. Hope to stay til Monday.

Thanks to all for your help. If you're passing, drop in for a brew

Only to pleased to be of help! Enjoy. Might take you up on the cuppa if I'm passing ;)

Nice of you to drop in, Dave, so we were able to thank you in person.
Enjoy your retirement and keep us posted on what you get up to.

Will do and thanks for the coffee ;)
I enjoyed our chat, especially about Portugal, another option to think about! Been having a look online and there seem to be some very interesting options over there that look to be quite affordable
