Having not used my genie for about 6 months I decided to drain all the old fuel and replace with fresh. On trying to start it would only run on the start switch (choke) and when I tried to switch it to run it would cut out. Ive done the most obvious D I, cleaned plug, checked oil level, filters are all clean and the carb has fuel to it as I have undone the screw to base of carb and there is fuel reaching the carb. I have even rocked the genie as suggested possibly to free a stuck needle? but no luck. It has only run for about 20 hrs from new . Any ideas??

Ive even tried Easystart with no success.:help:

my honda van-bike did the same when away in Cornwall , it is the shitty petrol has gummed the jets and they need cleaning by blowing through with an air jet and the floatbowl cleaning. The ethanol takes water in with it and it separates out in the bowl as evaporation takes the volatiles away.
Mind you my kipor takes a lot of pulling to get going as the pull only does one revolution per pull.

I have an IG2000 that needs a new inverter board excellent engine open to offers.

I still have no luck trying to start my genie, without looking at it a company in Bristol said it could cost £150 to fix it, how come they guesstimate that amount. Millers of Chippenham and Weeks of Bath don't seem to want to know. Any ideas ?

most of these gennys have a bowl on the bottom of the carb which has a bolt central which holds it on and one on the side to see if fuel is getting past the float valve, which often sticks if left for a while. if the bowl is filing ok then turn off fuel, remove bowl and check main jet which is usually in the same tube the holding bolt screws into. if it is like this, then unscrew the jet with a screwdriver and blow it clean
bloody things

Give this bloke a ring mate there's not much he don't know about Chinese gennys. and is very helpful. Probably only wants a carb clean. R.E.B.small plant repairs.Richard 07877 679281

Jim, I tried that number and got Mitzi's Massage Parlour.

Did you select the wrong number in your mobile?

I would also recommend Richard spot on guy and will maybe talk you through it .

You have got the dreaded gum. If you don't use any petrol engine now YOU MUST DRAIN the carb and tank as the ethanol and water will get together and the water will lie in the bottom of the tank and the float bowl rusting it and ethanol and rust bung the jets. Pain in the rear but I have to drain all my chainsaws and generators to avoid it , OR you can run on Premium grade as that has no ethanol and lasts a lot longer, there are proprietary products that you can add but they are expensive for what you get. My little CG 125 in the back of the van did it to me after a few weeks of not being used when down a Mevagissey It went down the hill but didn't want to go back up. absolute PITA.

Most of the countries premium unleaded fuel now has up to 5% ethanol added. Aviation fuel is ethanol free. If you don't use much it is quite simple to to remove the ethanol have a look on YouTube. Ask at your fuel station they should be able to tell you how much ethanol is in the petrol they sell if you are bothered.

I just use Briggs and Stratton additive / preserver in my Honda EU20i. No matter how long it has stood it always starts after 2/3 pulls. Not cheap but if I'm in the wilds in the middle of winter the last thing I need is it not starting.

I have had the same problem with a petrol lawn mower, I left petrol in it for years unused and I can't get the carburettor the back working correctly.

It will only run on choke, I have had it all in bits and drowned it in carburettor cleaner but it's scrap now. I can't fix it.

Again same problem with a petrol generator of mine.

It seems you can't leave any petrol in things if they are not being used, it just ruins them.

I had an Outboard engine Carburettor Ultra Sonically cleaned which cured the problem.

I seem to remember that it was an expensive process, but I suspect that this was because I had it done at a boatyard. Boatyards are notorious for hiking up prices above what you would pay anywhere else!

Try soaking the carb in coke overnight then wash out with clean fuel.
