Seeing as there are obviously a lot of ingenious people on this forum....

I wondered if anyone had a really good storage solution for hookup cable, grey waste hose and fresh water hose?

The posh bags they came in have all long gone, and quite apart from the bother of using them, I anyway prefer to have things dry quickly in the garage if they get wet.

I've been trying to find hooks big enough, without great success. And I'd also need something to stop them flapping around or coming off as I (ahem) go over a speed bump too quickly, as happened in Spain last month. Or perhaps just put them in a crate?

Or maybe just not bother about it - let my OCD-ness worry about something else.

Any neat ideas, anyone?

Hi, I have 1 hook-up cable in a crate, the other 2 are stored next to the crate with the fresh water hoses on top in a side locker, waste hose is in gas locker clipped into the clip above the door, nothing seems to move much when I'm going too fast over speed humps.

i use those see through, plastic, zipped large wallets thatnew mattress covers are wrapped in when you buy them .... they have handles - but whether they are strong enough to hang i doubt, but you can stack them up, one on top of another and can see what you want at a glance....

I use old pillowcases for mine. Any damp can still dry out better than in plastic and you could easily organise a loop to hang it on a hook

Hi Ya,
Fresh Hose,,, I've got an X Hose, It kinda Stretches n Shrinks with use (Yeah I know !) , Extremely small & made from Flat Webbing Material like, NOT thick ridged Plastic I don't put it in a bag as it doesn't get used that often & I don't like the idea of providing a perfect Growth environment in the form of a Plastic bag, I let it breath. After use & Before packing away, I squirt a dose of Dilute Milton's down one end, & Hang over my rear ladder for a few minuets.

Grey Hose,,,Big, Thick Releasable Cable ties !. Use Over & Over again, Cheap as chips, Use as many as you need to keep it coiled.

As far as the Hook up cable goes, Old Electric cable drum, Old Cable OFF, Hook up Cable ON & Wind as usual.

What's a grey water hose ? I just drive over a grate if on site, drive over a roadside drain when out and about wilding or drop it on my drive followed by the clean water that's remaining if at home.

Yeah,, I didn't have a Grey hose for the first 6 months or so of full timing, But I Have carried a piece now for some 18month, as I found that the Outlet tap on my Tank Never matched the Grate on Campsite grey Dump points', Always about 8 ft or so out for a Tag Axel Motorhome lol. SO I carry about a small 10ft coil & DO find it useful on other occasions especially in HOT weather when I cant quite get 'Over' or Near a drain in say a Busy or favourite Well used Popular Street or Beach front Park up, & moving will almost certainly cost you the hard fought space found (I need a double length space of about 38/40ft to park as I'm 30ft long & crap at Parking lol lol). & the hose is also good for going over a path or track & into a verge or Undergrowth if needs be & I have to let a bit out of my tank if full. My view is a simple thing like a piece of hose is small enough to carry & Coil & just gets you 'IN' or at least Closer to a drain at times, I suppose it just shows that you've at least thought about others. But that being said I HAVE seen on a few occasions an almost constant trickle of grey water running past my door in the gutter on its way to a drain from other Motorhomes when parked up for a day in summer at places like Worthing, Not nice & easily avoidable by the more responsible.

You just hold the middle with one hand and wind the handle with the other and it pulls the cable in. No twists/knots, you just stand in one place and a tidy cable comes to you.

It's difficult to explain, but it's absolute chalk and cheese to winding the cable around a drum like you normally would. I'll never use anything else and I'm good at winding cables away, the 'old fashioned' way.

Yeah its really odd, I find the Nest grows by a ft or so when you talk to people about it, & Shrinks by a ft or so when you want to Take it on a ferry or pay for storage !.

just as a small point of caution...... if you keep electric cables coiled up when they are in use, heat will build up in the cable and the cable nearest the winding container/reel/drum whatever you are using can easily get overheated and melt - i have seen this several times, and even seen cable melded together - i always uncoil all of my cable when i use as a precaution against fire.

That looks great for the electric cable Steve. I don't use ehu often but I'll admit I don't like wet, muddy hands, which happens even if I pull the cable through a cleaning rag as I'm winding. So, I've just ordered one! Thank you!

Yep, Good point, & it even states on 'Most' Extension Cable Drums the Load to be drawn on BOTH the Wound & the Un Wound cable, Something you WOULDNT have printed on an empty cassette.

I've got everything I need on my own drive too, which is fab and makes it all so easy at the end of a trip. I've also got a collapsible bucket I can use to take 10 litres at a time to a nearby drain if the waste tank is full. I also have a wastemaster but have only used it once in nearly 6 years because it only feels appropriate on a camp site! I don't have any qualms about watering plants or trees though, if that's the only option. I respect that many people are wary of grey water but...

I was around in the drought of 1976 when we were all told by the Government to save our washing up water, bath water, etc, to water gardens and lawns... and to bathe with a friend - although, in retrospect, that last one may just have been a car sticker Another top tip of the day was to use soapy washing up water in a spray to get rid of greenfly on your roses lol! It's second nature to me to wipe off the bits of food with kitchen towel and throw those in the bin, then all you're left with after washing up is reasonably clear, soapy water. If the tank ever gets smelly, I won't dump the water anywhere but a drain until it's clean and fragrant again.

Now I'll sit back, rub my hands and wait for the whole grey water debate to start again... mwahahahaha :ninja: :rolleyes2:
