in all this hot weather ...how are you managing to keep cool....either at home or in the van

ive got my best friend with me......hot water bottle......no no no
not hot water....fill it with cold water and stick it in fridge for half hour......
keep all my curtains closed....and only open windows when there is a breeze coming thru.

Am sitting here with all the windows shut, they have been since 9am, and unlikely to be opened until 10pm, temperature indoors has risen to 22c temperature outside is 27c atm. Due to overhang of thatch only one window gets sun shining through it, yesterday and today hung a 'curtain' over the outside from 10am to 6pm.

We are keeping the house as cool as possible but at least the temperature here is a little cooler than the South. It's a worry as we have an elderly Pug (13.5 years old) and he suffers with the heat. He has a cool coat and we also drape him in wet tea towels to help keep him cool. The forecast says it will reach 26 degrees tomorrow, then cool off a few degrees after that.

Its 26c inside and van is 33c, back conservitory is 40c, my cat is sitting with his head up to bedroom wall and not one bit pleased with the heat.
TMO is the twelth and the orange men will be roasted alive. 😨

We’re lucky we’ve got a wee woodland with a burn and it’s amazing how much cooler it is under the trees beside the water.

Looks idyllic Cal.
Our stream is now just a dried out bed and choked with brambles, nettles and weeds. Going away for 3 months doesn't help! Our trees are blackthorn, great for sloes but lethal with 1“ thorns.
Anybody fancy a bit of clearing, as much as you can eat and drink and a pocket of cash to go home with. 😂

Our burn is spring fed so always has a wee flow. We’ve put a lot of work into clearing and tidying thins up. We’ve took bucket loads of metal and glass out of it. Some interesting finds too.

We are at Burton Bradstock chasing the shade. Luckily there has been a bit of breeze.
We open windows on the shady side if there is a breeze. We have rechargeable and 12V fans.
We don't have an awning on our new van, as we only used the last one once in 5 years, so we sit in the shade of the van itself. Lots of water for the dogs and us.
Today we have a couple of large bottles of water inside the black silver-screen bag, sitting in the sun for washing up water later.

If we were at home, we'd be in more heat, but with the option of sitting in our north facing sitting room with one small window and 2 foot thick stone walls. It's like walking into a fridge.

All doors and windows wide open, as we face south, we get a bit of a crosswind, I have the blind down in the lounge as it has a bay so no shaded from the sun, 24.2°c in here already. I bought a few of these from Temu, they work really well.
