I guess the crane came in handy then? :D
We did need a crane the weekend before last, well a HIAB anyway. On a single track road and someone in small car was unable to reverse to passing place and also unable to follow helpful instructions.
We tried to get past but lot of leaves/mud at side of road and slid off. Despite low ratio engaged and diff lock on we couldn't get back on. Other half decided to get out as thought we were going to tip. Doesn't look that steep but was 45 degree slope and very soft.
Anyway, 5 hrs later and after normal breakdown had come and gone, the HIAB recovery arrived. Used the HIAB arm to attach chain to the side of pickup so it wouldn't role and then attached winch to front towing eye and pulled us out.

Very very relieved and no damage done. Lesson learned, sometime you can be too helpful, next time will wait or reverse the car!!

I was watching these shenanigans from the comfort of my van. Well at least, some of them. Because of a wobble box obstructing the view, what I did see was a Sprinter, fitted with BFG sandals struggling to move on a wet, uneven gravel road. Loads of smoke coming off his tyres. That's odd I thought.
When I finally decided to investigate further, remember, it was chilly outside, all the drama was over, and St3ve was free once more.
Well done everyone who helped, and I was happy in the knowledge that my help wasn't needed.

that looks a bit scary!
Fiona, have a look at this YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/@MattsOffRoadRecovery for some very scary things (it makes you wonder what is in the head of some of these people driving where they do in totally unsuitable vehicles - including big RVs)
Yes, we have only had him for less than 6 months and thought we were going to lose at least the demountable.
Thanks for the link, some good videos, interesting the demountable in the swamp, interesting place to park! As you said people have strange ideas.
