Hi, I've been reading these forums for ages, from when I first wondered if I dare wild-camp. I have signed up now as I am really considering trying this for the first time. I often go away in van just me and my little girl when hubby is working though, this is why I am a little apprehensive. It would be nice if I could find places that are quite busy with other motorhomers overnighting.

Hi misselaineous
welcome aboard :) ............i know just what you mean, even though i've been posting for a while now, i've yet to wildcamp ( just waiting for my first M/H to be ready to collect, only 8 days to go :D ) i'm also a little nervous about wild camping..........but i'm sure once you get that first night under your belt, it becomes plain sailing.
Good luck

Welcome aboard MisElaineous. Seeing as you and your little daughter are alone without your husband, I would advice you, at first, to stay at proper controlled Campsites. It would be better, to have good folk around you. Once you get into the swing of things and your hubby been with you a couple ot times, then you could branch out slow but sure on your own. At first, learn the ropes. Have fun and enjoy whatever to do.

Welcome missElaineous i like the name by the way, i agree with what David & Ann say its very sound advice.

Thanks for the welcome. I guess you're right, will have to talk hubby into trying wild-camping a couple of times first. "Free" camping would be the part that appeals to him the most, not saying his middle name is Ebenezer or anything. :D

try it

i don,t agree that you need a man with you to wild camp safely. just choose your site with common sense and go for it. my first wild camp was from necessity i was so scared that someone might steal my new van that i stayed in it over night all by my self.

or buy a big gun well maybe not dont think thats legal around these parts

Hi Irenerobbie,
I tend to agree with you with what you say in your post, but a child's saftey is paramount in this instance as it is MissElaineous's first experience with Wilding. Perhaps, I am a mite to cautious

I would suggest you try somewhere close at hand for your first attempt at wilding. This could be for one night close to home. I'm lucking in that respect because I live 20 Miles from Loch Doon that was my first wild camping experience with my children. You should be able to find somewhere safe or take a friend instead of the hubby. I must admit I was nervious my first night. (says me 11 years royal navy and now 5 years as a prison warder) Once you get over your first night you'll love it and never look back.

Happy camping

Talking your husband into joining you is a great idea. I believe his first trip out, will not be his last. Camping is a wonderful disease. You'll know it, when you do it. Knoxy's idea of trying it out first close to home is a good one. Have fun.

Have a look at the Aldeburgh, Suffolk site, EVERY time we've been there even in Feb there's been other overnighters; from fishermen to M/H's and if you get 'scared' there's a lovely site off Chuch lane at the other end of the town - should be open now (closes over winter).

I think all of us were a bit apprehensive to start with, but find a nice spot, don't stand out too much and enjoy it!

hi welcome MisElaineous,i would wildcamp without my hubby if i could meet up with another camper friend and say go off for the weekend together,im not sure if id go on my own.........YET!!

Nice pair Samm

That's a nice pair of 'low profiles', yours in the flowers; and mine with the RIB on the back - I think by the photo's your also has the door on the 'wrong' side?

What's the make & model of your M/H? (Posted by Nosha-the-nosey-bugger!)

i camped when my kids were young( couldn't afford camper) and they still talk about the great experiences 20 years later.
safety is important but being out there and getting life experience is also important . children need to learn about the great outdoors and taking them on a "wild" experience is a great way to do it , gives them essential life skills. so go for it at every opportunity.
