Just arrived in Dinard

We stayed at Mont St.Michel Du Ripoff last night 22 Euros for two coffees and two pieces of undercooked glorified cheese on toast, not to mention the parking charges. We asked when we arrived and were told 12.50 Euros, so we thought that we weren't on the car park people have been warning about, but it changes at 2am, so it cost us 25 Euros to get out.

We headed for St. Malo, but after several circuits of the one way system we headed over here and are staying on a site tonight, the first one we've used, but at least we have showers for the first time since we left home. On the way into St Malo I spotted an SFR shop, so tomorrow I'll sort out how to top up the dongle. I'm reasonably happy tonight as I'm yards from a private beach, so can go fishing when the tide comes in...

dont forget pics, would love to be over there but can't, so next best thing...enjoy

Would love to know how you get on with topping up the dongle !
Would dearly love to get a PAYG data sim card for when were over there

Also we went to Mont St Michel last month and fortunately found out about the charges before we stopped over night so only had to pay the €12.50 but was only there for about 2 hrs as we got there so late we had to move on to find somewhere to sleep
Enjoy the fishing sooooo jealous

Worth bearing in mind if you are passing is a good campsite in Pontorson (just inland from Mt St Michel) only 16 euros if you have camping cheques (maybe not mid summer though). It's called Halliotsis (or hallitosis to the English = easy to remember) Heated pool, sauna, good motorhome service point, etc. very pleasant and friendly. Carrefour with fuel & LPG pump just round the corner too.

PS Camping Cheques Accepted
from 16/03/2012 to 07/07/2012
from 25/08/2012 to 11/11/2012

They claim it is France's no.1 tourist trap but I think all this parking/charging malarky will put a lot of people off now. Next step is to turn it back into a proper island so who knows where that will leave us (high and dry, no doubt!).

i agree stay by the coast its great around there . just keep following it round .you can go inland next time . you are now getting to the most aires in the whole of france in one area . easy to park and the coast is magic . love it .

in that case then go inland mur de bretagne etc .pontivy .plouermel, josselin .then down to bottom coast and try it the other way round .
or drop to la baule .bet its nice there . too much to chose from really . like a kiddie in a sweet shop. but adventures are there to be had.

france231.jpgpulled in just along from the mont and saw a fleet of these trundling home. oyster boat i think, anyway seemed a bit surreal at the time, the bloke driving this one had a proper ships wheel and matching hat

You may have a point about going inland, although it's warm here at the moment.

It looks as though we have a good chance of a red sunset. At the moment I'm tired of driving, tired of moving on daily and generally worn out, completely the opposite of the reason for a holiday, so I'm sitting still for a couple of days. I'm committed to being in Brive by the 23rd to meet my daughter, but at the moment the forecast is bad there for that week and not good between now and then and I'm considering jumping on the ferry from St Malo to the UK as I can get just as wet there without the additional strain of constantly getting lost, driving miles and having to think in French. I'll make a decision when I've spoken to my daughter on Skype later.

so i take it the next trip wont be follow the coast around the west coast of france then around spain ,portugal and spain back to france .
many of us do it by choice most years . you get the hang of it after awhile . you arent lost you are in france . always head north or west .
you are bound to meet the sea. from there ,turn left or right . dont plan just have fun .
remember.
we dont know where we are going untill we are there.
you sing that as you go along .

Oh BT you sound properly fed up :( I hope you at least manage to catch a good dose of warmth and sunshine before you head home... you'll not find much of it here that's for sure! It's been great fun keeping up with your adventures and enjoying your trip vicariously, so thanks for all the great posts :)

Who turned the sun on?

I've been watching the sun for the past hour, waiting for sunset. Then looked out to see an orange orb in the sky....somebody has turned on a light exactly where I planned to take a picture.

Hi Bushtrekker, never mind the sunset - serious stuff, did yer catch anything and is it a good site - there's a decent spot on D64 - Route de Morlaix - Le Moulin de la Rive near Kerael not too far if your heading that way, also PARKING next to beach - good Lug - Makkies and Bass - Tight Lines
