Last weekend I decided to book a storage spot for the van, we haven't much chance of using it and we need a skip on the drive (not a Skoda, a real skip for rubbish)
I booked three months and on Monday I tried to start the van, the engine spun over quickly, too quick in my opinion, it has always started immediately on turning the key but nothing was happening.
Then I noticed that the immobiliser light was still flashing, I tried a different key, still the same, tried the red key, made no difference, I dug out my ELM327 and 3pin to OBD11 adaptor but on Fiatecuscan I got the message that it was the wrong ELM327, it worked last time but not with the latest version of Fiatecuscan.
Ordered a new one then spent days trying to find obvious problems and reading horror stories online, people paying thousands for auto electricians to come out, fit new ECU's and reprogram etc.
I fitted a new battery, new extra earth leads, cleaned terminals, checked for chewed wiring, took the steering column apart to check the wiring connections for the immobiliser ring on the lock.
Today the new ELM327 arrived, according to the fault readings I had no power going to the immobiliser ECU, traced it all back to number 16 fuse in the glovebox, glow plugs according to the manual, the fuse looked ok but no power was going through it, new fuse fitted and it started first time.

New ELM, £20, new fuse, 20p, the smug look on my face, priceless.
I am a retired mechanic but I never worked on diesels before we bought this van, it has never bothered me because all the info is online for you to see, Maggy said to me on Tuesday, is it a fuse?, no I said, I have checked them all.
Don't tell her 🥵
