I have had a few of these boxes on previous vehicles.
They do increase BHP by adding more fuel, but if you use the power you use more fuel!
Chipping can definitely increase mpg and you can choose the modification with that in mind. It doesn't just increase bhp but torque as well, so you can drive in higher gears with the obvious benefit.

There is no doubt that, for many diesel engines, chipping or remapping can have significant benefits but of course, as has already been mentioned, we need to think about whether we'll recoup the cost and we should also ask our insurers if it will increase the premium. It it does increase the premium there's not much point but in my partner's case there was no increase.
