It is not all roses

I think towards the end he spent quite a bit of time with his caravan at the Blacksmiths at Kirkheaton,
I know I used to pass there many times a week, and saw his caravan parked up there for many weeks
Quite possible as he had nowhere to leave the caravan at home and you don't get much better than the view from the Blacksmiths and that would be only 3 or 4 miles for him.

First Outboard dealers I looked at Trev;

Several boats with Honda engines for sale here;

Loads over the border too.
Floods is a joke, I wont even go there.
The only good place to buy other than me is Marine services Islandmagee/Martin Stitt, he has parts and a top engineer, or Tonys marine, most others here have only one engine displayed in a lawnmower shop and know feck all, never mind no mec to service.

That honda 5 has been on facebook for donkeys ears, he will never sell it, Many down around Enniskillen as there was a dealer there once, but no one to fix down there, all cowboys.
Now here is a chap knows what he is doing and sell good engines with a 3 year back up, some say best mec in ireland LOL.

To be honest Trev, he'd probably slag you off too.

See above.

Dont bother with websites rob, its all word of mouth, not one of any top boys here have a web site, except Nigel at sands marine.

Sands are a Honda dealer Trev with a good reputation.

However, the Parsun you link to is a Chinese piece of crap! The internet is riddled with bad reviews about Parsun. By the way (I think I have told you before) a lot of Tohatsu engines which you praise are rebadged Honda's?

I Think the forums over the years have seen a fair few posts of people looking at living in a van full time to save money. Sounds pretty grim to me at that kind of level. As Kev says up thread. What will $5000 get you? Not much.

Its a bit different swanning about in a six berth Kontiki with no money worries to trying to survive in a little van that cost next to nothing. No comparison. I could happily live in the van and some years we pretty much have. I think 2012 we spent eight months in it, six of those in Europe and most years certainly before Covid was the same. five months this year now coming up. Its a bit like saying "home life" is rubbish because you live in a tent or a garden shed and not a house.

As for boats. Well I miss mine but Mrs D wasnt keen. I would get another one but it would have to be a gin palace with loads of space after spending so much time in a six berth motorhome.

How do you manage with house insurance being away for so long at a time?

I agree Barry. For that money you are not going to get much in the way of comfort and when you are in the doldrums you wouldn't be happy wherever you lived.

I'm the opposite with boats these days though, all I need is a bed and a bog. One of the great things about boats is that you can carry loads of gear such as BBQ's, camping stoves etc. I like simple these days, maybe because I'm simple. :(

The one I just sold had all the comforts although not a big boat but I seldom used the cooker, heating, hot water etc.

Here she is;

This is lovely.... Love the tug style too..

I'd be wary of the extra deep draught though.
And shame his flexible panels bit him in the Harris... Though not overly susprising.

Looks lovely that Rob. You could easily spend a fair chunk of time on that. Almost a similar layout to a six berth motorhome with the same facilities.

Tohatsu up to 30hp are the same engines as mariner merc, all built in china, sands marine whom i know only sell engines and cannot fix them as no one there to do so, they send them to a chap up the road who is not that good, 90% of all engines end up at Martin Stitt in Islandmagee, or my garage, I now dont fix or sell any other makes these days as retirement looms, in 15 years of selling parsun I have only had about 5 back for warranty work, last one was last week where the prop was tightened up to much and sheared the shaft, parts ordered and here within a week and sorted, very good with there after sales stuff, all comes through Higham marine in wales who is the biggest engine dealer in UK.
Folk buy what they can afford Rob and some engines are way out of reach on price.

I had a mate who had his boat brought over from Spain and he had it in a marina on Windemere, he used the phrase a boat is a big hole to throw money into, I lost interest there & then.
