Isochrones - more relevant than you might think.

But AFAIK that's not the point of the app.
Lets say we want to go out for the day and only want to spend a maximum of one hour driving, oras Geof posted, want to be within an hours drive of a location for travel the next day, a sat nav won't tell you this unless you spend time checking each individual POI.
Yes I agree, but it wasn't meant to be used how we would use it, it's a sales tool.

Isochrones like many things, have many uses.

In the early days I described a spreadsheet (Lotus 123) as a "paper clip" product.
Paper clips are meant for clipping paper but in practice get used for so much more (from executive toy to ear dewaxer!).
Isochrones are no good for ear dewaxing, but what you use them for is down to your imagination.

Supermarkets use them to determine the number of prospects within a given drive time of possible sites (strictly speaking it is more of a marketing tool than a sales tool) and Fire / Ambulance services use them in a similar manner.

I find them useful for deciding where to go for a MoHo break without driving for too long.

If you find them useful use them, if you don't don't!

Lotus 123! Now that brings back some memories. Some good ones, sort of. :D

Lots of good ones for me!
I spent a lot of time at Lotus HQ.

On one occasion I collected over 500 boxed copies of an update and they said they would sent me a personal cheque for the delivery I was saving them.
The delivery for a single box was about £2, but I was somewhat surprised when a cheque for over £1,000 (my highish salary was about £3,000 at that time), and even more so because I was collecting it in my company car! I sent the cheque back, but received a rather good Scotch from our account manager whose budget the cheque was from.

Marketing and sales to me is very similar and I'm sure some will find a use for it.

I did an intensive eight week residential (including weekends) "mini MBA" at Manchester Business School,
and I completed the Marketing module of the Open University MBA course.

Both spent a long time explaining the difference between Sales & Marketing.

My first ever job after leaving college in the late 80s was as a temporary financial analyst at British Steel. (Try not to laugh) :D I over did my CV and declared I could do accountancy as there was a module on our course (I was useless at it). I was crapping myself about doing the job but it was all flipping manual books! When they found out I knew IT and Lotus I got taken on for longer and set up all sorts of spreadsheets. Saved them a fortune as stuff went missing, was ordered in error, shipped without payment etc. I got the nod that it could lead to a really good permanent position but I think I blew it by having my first ever office romance with the girl I was working with who the ultimate boss that would have employed me had apparently been chasing for months. That was the end of that. Lucky escape really as it was a wounded animal British steel and run by Dinosaurs. Thats how I remember Lotus 123 though. :D

I guess it’s similar technology to the line my car navigation system draws to show how far I can go before running out of fuel.

It’s always getting a bit confused ! ;)
