Irrelevant topics.

I am surprised it was allowed to go on as long as it did.

I know I am old and grumpy and have not been a member that long, but as you have to subscribe to be a full member, I do not expect to see a post referring to male genetalia and frankly a lot of the posts were best left unwritten as they had little to do with the general subject wild camping. Most on this Forum seek knowledge and advice on matters to do with wild camping, caravans, motorhomes etc etc which is why I joined and enjoy contributing to conversations.

I suspect the vast majority on members who pay money to this Forum were appalled by the thread and felt it had little or nothing to do with why we decided to join. A repeat performance may well cause some to look elsewhere for a safe haven for our views and advice.
whilst i have empathy in respect of your comments the thread title you referred to suggested that there could be a heated discussion. like tv switch channel choose to read or not.

I made a throw away comment re male genitalia on a thread, I assure you there was no intention to offend and I am sorry if you took it that way.

Oh Lord the giftie gie us,
To see oursel's as others see us.

- Rabbie Burns

The problem with forums is that we often cannot understand how others will interpret what we have written. that is why I like to reread my postings carefully before hitting "send". But even that doesn't always work.

"When I use a word it means exactly what I want it to mean, nothing more & nothing less" - TweedleDum, in Lewis Carrol's Alice Thro the Looking Glass.

Think about that last one, it is a very important aspect of communication skills.

Nobodys bothered about ladies only meets, just dont mention a lesbians only meet. Not all ladies are lesbians, much to some mens dissapointment. :lol-049:

I must come out of the closet and tell everybody that I am a lesbian trapped in a mans body!
There, I've said it .... now you all know!

Damn, I have a busy day just getting on with life's menial tasks, and it's all kicked off on here (or so it would seem) and I've missed it all and tv is rubbish tonight, and I haven't got anything good to read. I should have stayed in the van somewhere tonight, I'd have been fast asleep by now.

Please note I am being very good and staying out of a certain thread which is about a certain colourless odourless gas which for some strange reason, when the subject is discussed, causes strong emotional responses in me.

Apparently this is what's known as being mature and in control. But it's not as much fun ;)

That comment that you made on the previous (now closed) thread was definitely NOT anti-gay, and it didn't come across like that. Most adults of any orientation would take it as a harmless joke and (even) find it funny! :)

It's an unfortunate fact that almost ANY humour carries the risk of being misunderstood by some, with no fault or ill-intent from either party.

As I always say.........некоторые люди не понимают моего юмора! :):)

Anyway, Bushtrekker's a bit of a naughty boy :)

He's been a member long enough to realise he should have considered starting this particular thread in off topic, eh John? ;) :hammer: :)

If you think I'm a naughty boy you can smack me next time we meet xxxx

When I was a local government officer there was a women's group and a black employees group and for some reason nobody could see my logic when I suggested a mens group. At one point I was delegated as the officer responsible for attending the racial equality group, which was a farce, as it was chaired by a Hindu woman and black employees never came, nor did many asian men because it was chaired by a woman. In fact there were more white employees on the group.

This forum must include Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and members of all the religious groups, but is anyone bothered?

Just picked up on the closed thread and was slightly bemused by it. Surely the whole point of this group is to discuss wild camping issues, irrespective of people's religion, sexual orientation or past history. When I've been to meets I've found owning a motorhome is a great leveller, like other hobbies and have managed to find something in common with most people I've spoken to without bringing sex, religion, or prying into people's past.

If people have specific interests they usually find each other anyway....Baa :)

I agree with you 100%

Hi, yes I included your comment even tho it wasn't in the same league of silliness as the others. Still felt it was a bit of a lame inappropriate joke for that thread, but sorry if you feel it got you wrong.
I was just surprised that someone mentioning they were gay brought out such a response. Has this topic not been covered much on this site before?

Bushtrekker........... I once worked in Local Government in the E Midlands and commented on my arrival that it was strange to find a Council in the E Midlands who employed no ethnic minorities. In fact, there were almost no families from the ethnic minorities living in the Borough!

One of the "Old & Bold" said to me that the answer was simple. The Borough was in a former mining area and that the National Union of Mineworkers ran an absolute colour bar on any ethnic minority working in the pits. Therefore, there were no jobs for incomers and therefore they went to the textile areas such as Nottingham and Leicester. Each pit also had a Masonic Lodge and the same thing applied. Most folk today think that the Masons were a bunch of toffs who run the country. The reality was that in their heyday they were primarily craft and trade based groups.

Now, hearing that one of the most radical Unions ran a colour bar seemed strange, but it was true. Strange also that everyone knew, yet nobody said anything publicly!!

Perception is not always what it appears!

I'm not sure what this thread is about, as I've been away, but, isn't it in the wrong place?

Down in the "dungeon" would be a more suitable venue, perhaps, according to the forum guidelines?

Anyway, I'll have to do a search now to find the closed thread ( they're often the most exciting). :p

In passing, I'd like to comment on Covey's post regarding the NUM.

Would it be the case that the masonic thing was regional?
Where I worked in the pits, South Wales, we all had to join the union, but a good many of us were not local or Welsh, yet I didn't really experience much "exclusion" of the type we'd find in Scotland/north of Ireland.

Already I'm guilty of doing what I think we shouldn't be doing, ie. discussing a controversial off-topic in the main part of the forum.

However, if Covey does respond to my question about the NUM, may I ask also whether he feels these masonic areas of the East Midlands were the ones that didn't stand by the strike?
I know for a fact that there were blackmen ( colour not politics) working in the pits in Yorkshire and in the North East of England, so my guess is that his comments apply to just a particular region.

I hope to find that this thread has been transferred to the appropriate place. :)

all the best,

sean rua.

I was surprised that admin closed the thread referred to. I thought that the BLACK HOLE thread was intended for this type of topic, where the sillys on here could argue till they died or what ever happened to them, so what exactly IS the BLACK HOLE intended for and why I wonder was the thread not put in it, Just my thoughts, i don't really care either way.

Without cheating and using Google Translate, I'm trying to translate this dredging through 20 year old memories of studying Russian as part of my degree. I always struggled with Russian grammar, much harder than German, but I think this is :
Negative people don't understand much.... and I don't know the last word

So Scampa, spill the beans, what does it mean?

Without attempting to trivialise yesterday's shenanigans , it was nice to here the phrase " bruised egos" . Apart from the odd gripe on today's thread, isn't it refreshing that today's another day, and everyones still talking. Lets face it for every complaint made , there were an awful lot of people who would admit if pushed, that the forum moved up a gear! I don't want to undermine the whole subject but I for one am glad it was aired.

There's a colourful new rainbow logo at the top of the site, too! ;)

I really hope it stays :)

Me too - for me, the rainbow symbolises total inclusivity and how diversity can produce something wonderful, even it is is only fleeting and intransient. Rainbows are always there, it's just that sometimes we can't see them - the conditions have to be right for them to be visible.

Rainbows usually mean it's raining on someone's parade, yet most others will be basking in the warm glow of the sunshine... ;-)

It wasn't someone mentioning they were gay that brought the response, it was why and the relevance that brought the response.

All sorts of comments/threads on this site don't don't have much 'relevance'. The fact that various members made such a fuss about the 'relevance' of someone saying they were gay is what brought out their true colours - and they weren't the colours of the rainbow.
