Need to get a new iPad and thinking of getting one with GPS.
Up till now I happily used a Samsung A Tab for navigation mostly with Maps.me and Magic Earth.
Anyone else use an iPad for GPS navigation apps? I don't really need the data sim slot, but it's only that spec that Apple builds in GPS!

I use an iPad for navigation apps, works perfectly ok, but no better than anything else as far as running navigation.
Trouble is if you get one of the larger iPads will be where to mount it. I often wonder about getting a smaller tablet just for navigation, haven't bothered yet.

I use my old iPad Air2 fitted to a Fiat dash mount, then run either maps.me or copilot on it alongside my Garmin. Ideally I’d have a tablet sized Garmin as I prefer their routing. Maybe I’ll just get a new Camper 1090 with 10” screen.

I'm thinking of getting the iPad Mini. Got a bit of a Heath Robinson set up to hold the Samsung Tab and think that should be OK.

I use a GPS module that has WiFi output so any tablet/s can connect with it. Small size and USB plug for power.

Several years back a friend had an apple ipad (10in)
From recollection
The alleged GPS location was provided via the sim card. Thus based on phone masts and inevitably not tht precise.
I expect thet has now changed ! BUT Just check the GPS works on satelites and indeed without a network connection.
Maps.me is great and once downloaded you do not need a data link.
just make sure you import POIs before going offline
Whilst driving I prefer a traditional satnav ! The scrren is big enough and it all works ! POIs can be added to most ! and again no interneet required
As has been posted mounting a 10in or even 7in tablet has issues

I use my ipad mini with a Garmin Glo, and a suitable mapping app that Glo works with.
Just looked up Garmin Glo. Looks like a possibility.
When you say that you use it with your iPad Mini, I take it that's the WiFi model?
The difference in price between the WiFi model and the GPS one is about the cost for the Garmin Glo.
Thanks

Probably the best mounting system available, not the cheapest but I've used their stuff on the motobike and it's built to last and comes with a lifetime warranty 👍

Thanks ..Not being critical but that explains my preference for a GPS unit which comes with a ready mount !

This is the Fiat dash mount in action with my iPad air2

Bit far away but liveable with. Can have it in the centre too, where it sits right in front of the radio.
