My little 150w inverter seems to have stopped producing 240v but still has the usb working.

Would I be right in assuming it is now useless

Probably and there is no reset switch and it's a sealed unit.

I was surprised it still works on the usb charger and the fan still goes.

I have to assume they are 2 different circuits working independently

Yep, the fan and the usb will both get their power from the 12v and will still work. The actual inverter circuitry is separate and has almost certainly failed. Like a lot of electronic items these days the repair bill will be higher than buying a new one so unfortunately it's off to landfill!
These are OK.

Will genuinely run at 600W constantly and the fan only cuts in when it needs to. They do take nearly an amp when switched on but not powering anything so best to turn them off when not in use.
Easy enough to find on eBay etc.

I`ve been using Sterling inverters for years and they are great (y)

The smaller of them a 350w I12350 ran the Dyson Pure Cool fan all day and a few times through the night as well on a recent jolly to France without any problems what so ever. It also runs the TV and Laptop when required.

The larger one a 1800w I121800 is wired into the distribution board with a safety relay and also has the remote control on/off, that happily runs the hair dryer and the microwave.
