If you want to use your mobile SIM in router you could use a VoIP number on your phone, but as you indicated swapping SIMs about can be a PITA.No you don’t but it’s much more convenient.
I used to take the SIM card from my phone with unlimited data and put it in my router.
But that meant having to then put a pay as you go sim into my phone to make calls, but from a number known to anyone who wanted to contact me.
