Insurance premium increases

As far as i'm concerned if you pay for 12 months you should be able to use it as often and for what ever lenth of time you want, they would not give you the money back for the lenth of time its sat on your drive would they. Its just another way of trying not to pay out if you make a claim.

But would you really want your motorhome sat on your drive uninsured? It's a bit like saying that when you are away in your motorhome you ought to get a rebate on your house insurance - I am happy to have both insured wherever I am.

with a pay load of 500kg what more do you have with you? they can't replace personal item's,photo's,paper work ect,so unless they write more into the policy quicker response time ,accommodation ect, what do you get for full time stated cover (except a higher premium)

basicaly if the insurance company find out or even suspect that you have not told them the truth , then you get naff all .if you fit alloy wheels to your van and they were not fitted as standard, and if you have not told them and you need to make a claim they can and will refuse to pay out, non standard fittings when you told them the van is standard , after all we all know what rip off merchants they are ,least little excuse and they dont want to know . for the few quid extra you will have to pay for full time insurance then its better to be covered properly . then they have no excuse for not paying out , after all if your van is worth even 10k and thats not a great deal nowadays and then your contents is it not worth a couple of hundred quid extra on your insurance to make shure you will be ok . one instance you only need to look at is holiday insurance when ,fall and break your leg ,if you have even had a sip of alcohol your claim is worthles as they say it was alcohol induced . the small print usualy says if you are under the influence of alcohol cover is void . insurance nowadays is a night mare so its better to do all you can to make shure you are on top of it .

mandrake you have missed MY point i asked what extra do you get with a fulltime insurance?? differant to an normal m/h one? to justify a differance
ok you have no fixed abode and use your m/h 365 days of the year,a normal insurance does't only allow so many nights a year does it?

Most policies restrict continental use to 30, 60, 90 up to 180 days. Comfort's full timing policy allows 365 but only 6 months in any one country (import restrictions not insurance). There is usually no restriction to UK use.

As you say a full timing premium is paid because the underwriters at AVIVA, not Ben Cue MD of Comfort, consider that a van used 24/365 is a greater risk than a one used for restricted periods and stored. AXIA will not sell a policy direct as it was specialy negociated with their underwriters and Mr Cue who is a Motorhome owner and an insurance broker.

The general terms of the Comfort policy are the same as the normal one. There is no extra contingency cover if you are homeless because something has happened to your Motorhome. It is up to you to make arrangements for yourself.

The extra premium for not having a UK residence as opposed to a UK address is set by the AVIVA underwriters. I have found no other company will offer this cover despite statements by others that they have it from NFU. When I contacted a number of NFU offices and head office they all denied in writing that they do Full time Motorhome cover. If you have a UK residence that you have access to at any time, then you are not full timing.

I pay £1000+ for full timing cover but I can rest assured that as I have declaired my true status that they will not back out if I do need to make a claim.

My car cover is also affected and my Smart insurance is £850 also with AVIVA and Comfort because of the extra risks of it not being garaged and it being transported behind the Motorhome. Axia Direct quote £200ish online and I was paying £400ish with Comfort before going full time.

We are insured with Safeguard and their policy provides 12 months cover in Europe with no restrictions on how long in each country. The proviso is that your stay is "temporary" - ie you have a permanent residence in the UK and the motorhome is registered and taxed in the UK. This in effect means that you have to be in the UK at least once a year if your van is more than 3 years old - for the MOT. But then this applies to all vans registered in the UK whoever you are insured with.

thanks john &john ,in other words it's all worked out to stack the chip's on their :mad:side
i wonder how claims by "fulltimers" stack up against bank holiday and 2wks holidays a year users claims also for that matter over 55's compared to under 55's in so far as being older and retired the m/h is used more.
in a fair world you would think one would off set the other:cool:

now matter what you go to insure, the companies always stack the chips in there favor thats why its always best tell them in full what you have and what you are doing .because if they find the least little thing you have not enclosed or told them then they will void your cover . then you may as well not even bothered with the insurance in the firs place .

if you pay for 12 months there should be no restrictions on how long you can use the van for, bloody thieves.you used to be able to freeze your insurance but not anymore.

For UK use there are no restrictions, it is foreign use that gets limitations. However home insurance often has restrictions about how long a property can be left unoccupied. So you may be able to be away in your motorhome as long as you like but is your house still insured.

insurence

im with 2gether insurance i pay £220 per year i have 9yrs no claims but this includes 12mth uk and european breakdown cover unlimited time abroad the only downside is your limited to 4 breakdown call outs a year also it cant be the same problem ie if your starter motor packs up and 6 mths later again they wont come out also you can use van everyday not like some companys
hope this helps

Even if you could freeze your insurance, I for one would not wish to do so. Remember, just because your van isn't moving doesn't mean it doesn't need insurance. If it catches fire or is stolen while on your drive and uninsured I am sure you wouldn't be too happy to lose everything.
