Insurance premium increases

I've just recently had my renewal arrive.

Premium last year £199 - this year it's gone up by almost £100!

Same insurer, and having obtained a few quotes elsewhere I cannot do better than £300.

Is this sort of jump in premiums in line with what is happening to others?

Chris

Pretty rare for premiums not to jump. The insurers all play the same old ruse, 1st years premium looks good then a jump up at !st renewal, hoping you can't be bothered to shop around.

I agree with Byronic. My premium has gone up by nearly £50 for 2010/11. You can't win. Have to take it on the chin. One thing though, it is still lower than the rest of them but not by much.

We have full timing Insurance with Comfort. Premium last year was £600 for year. Then £350 for 9 months for full timing extra . Renewal for the full year with breakdown £1003 this year, so infact a reduction if you base the figures over the full year it would be £1066

Thats one of those rare cases of the Premium decreasing, makes you wonder if they got it right orginally!! I guess Full Timing cover loads your Premium by a significant margin, as your Premium does seem high to me, based on the assumption that you get max no claims and you're in a favourable age range that is.

They have the market cornered. No other company I know offers cover for Full Timing and UK/Continental Breakdown. Full timing loads premium very heavily.

The Smart Car carried on a trailer behind the motorhome, increased by more than 100% because of the extra risk. ie Not garaged, on trailer and the fact that we were full timing.

insurance

hi canelsman when ours is up for renewal i go on those compare sites this year changed to comfort overwritten buy aviva 5 ton tag £50,000 insured plus benefits £246. happy camping

cc

I got a quote from the Caravan Club £168 and I had to join CC for £30 with the usual benefits.
They cheap recovery and overseas cover plus loads of other policies for sick etc!

We are with Saga this time the renewal fee has gone up about £90 ...to about £400 that includes European breakdown legal cover etc.

I had a quote from Saga 2 weeks ago standard comp. cover without Breakdown Recovery £186 very good I think. Call me paranoid but I would bet it would go up at least £90 next year.
I think when a Policy deviates from the norm such as a Full Time Policy then the insurance companies are bound to load the premium heavily to cover themselves for what they perceive as a relatively unkown risk, you've just got grin and bear it.

Insurance is a minefield - I changed a couple of years ago to NFU and this year it was DOWN by a large margin due to it being A mutual company and they had a good year last year so it was passed on to the customer. BRILLIANT I CALL IT.

Maybe they had a good year last year because they overcharged!!

Ours is to be renewed this month at a cost of £191.00.
Thats with Chaucer through the insurance factory.
This is for a 1992 hymer b544.Cant remember what it was last year but i am happy it is under 200 squid, will still be having a shop around though.

I went onto the NFU website when I noticed they say the do Full Timers insurance on another forum insurance database. They do Full Time for Caravans, but I cannot see anything for Motorhomes. Do you have any info Guernsey Donkey?

Ring up and ask if they can do a better price. Don't grin and bear it without trying for a better rate

Contacted NFU and they tell me that they do NOT cover full timers - it was worth a try.

If you have an address to register your van to ,friend, family, ect, you would not need fultime insurance, would you ?.

strictly speaking you realy do need full time insurance if it is your only home ,ok if you get ordinary cover and you have a claim all you need do is say i am on an extended holiday ,most insurances let you be away from the address you give for up to 9 months in any one year and they dont know what date you started your holiday no probs (what daddy dont know wont hurt him). but how do you explain you have taken all your worldly goods with you because lets face it every thing you own is in that van, and if you have a total loss all you have left is what you stand up in

As far as i'm concerned if you pay for 12 months you should be able to use it as often and for what ever lenth of time you want, they would not give you the money back for the lenth of time its sat on your drive would they. Its just another way of trying not to pay out if you make a claim.

with a pay load of 500kg what more do you have with you? they can't replace personal item's,photo's,paper work ect,so unless they write more into the policy quicker response time ,accommodation ect, what do you get for full time stated cover (except a higher premium)
